Who does cheerleading affect?

Physically if young girls particiate in competition cheer they will be very fit. I know from experience that there is much more then appears to the eye. You get strength training from lifting other girls. You are also get cardio training from all of the running you will be doing. Muscle building comes from all of the push-ups and sit ups. Mentally is a whole different ball park however. The one huge thing that can raise a young girls self esteem is from knowing that she has every girl in that whole gym behind her cheering her on including the coaches. Ya cheer is very dramatic but there is nothing any of the girls wouldn't do for each other. And simply knowing that u always have some one backing you up gives you a sence of self worth and therefore apears in a young girls mental state.

cheerleading is definitely a sport. the definition of sport is anything that has competition to it. plus cheerleaders can get hurt just as bad as football players. in football if you miss a catch all you miss is da ball...but in cheerleading if you miss a catch den you miss da athlete. now which one sounds more dangerous????????? and when football players get tackled dey have pads on and stuff. cheerleaders dont have anything but their uniforms are. cheerleading is actually very dangerous. cheerleading is definitely a sport. the definition of sport is anything that has competition to it. plus cheerleaders can get hurt just as bad as football players. in football if you miss a catch all you miss is da ball...but in cheerleading if you miss a catch den you miss da athlete. now which one sounds more dangerous????????? and when football players get tackled dey have pads on and stuff. cheerleaders dont have anything but their uniforms are. cheerleading is actually very dangerous.

Why Don't the Chicago Bears have cheerleaders?

No, the Detroit Lions do not have cheerleaders. Mr. Ford does not like the idea of cheerleaders. He prefers to keep the game a family event atmosphere and thinks that cheerleaders would lead to drunken-male atmosphere that will create a lot of fights and destroy his reputation.

Back in the early to mid 1970's while the Lions played in Detroit (Briggs Stadium), they did in fact have cheerleaders - 7 ladies to be exact. We were paid per game and cheered at the home games only, as they did not allow us to travel to the away games. When the Lions moved out of Detroit to the Pontiac, MI Silverdome, the squad was disbanded. There was a time the Detroit Lions did have professional cheerleaders!

Is gymnastics better than cheerleading?

It's all up your personal opinion.

My opinion basketball is way better because cheerleading way too girly for me (I'm a tomboy, hate girly stuff...eew...) Basketball there is a lot more action and running around. You need to have good strength, power and good shots for the ball to get into the hoop. It's epic.

But if you prefer cheerleading, then that's fine because it's up to you. My sister prefers cheerleading because you need to be flexible and you need to be able to fly and flip your body around in the air while you rely on other girls to try and catch you. It's like their your safety net. So if you think you can manage all of that then cheerleading is for you. But if not, basketball.

YOUR OPINION OK IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK..

If you are 13 and 130lbs is that to heavy to be a flyer in cheerleading?

No. just make sure when you are up in the air to suck up and really help your bases by pushing off their shoulders and you will be fine. have fun! :)

I'm a base and i doubt it. We have a fly-er who is about 125 and she pulls her weight up very well. If you really want to fly, and you're that weight, don't worry about it, just make sure to help your bases out!

Hot to do a handstand?

http://handstandsaroundtheworld.com/home/how_to_do_a_handstand

A handstand is a seemingly simple skill that takes a long time to master. The best way to learn how to do a handstand is to first build your arm and core strength up. You can do this a number of ways. For arms I would suggest push ups and plank holds. For core, I would suggest hollow body holds and crunches. Once your strength is where it needs to be to hold yourself up, you will be ready to try a handstand against a wall. Start in a squatted position almost against the wall. Then walk your feet up (with stomach facing wall) until you reach a handstand position and hold it as long as you can. Once you have this down and can hold it for more than 30 seconds, you are ready to try a real handstand! At the beginning, try some lever hops. These are done by lifting your back leg as you lower your hands and then performing a small "hop" with your other foot when your hands touch the floor, so that for a short moment you are only on your hands. Don't worry about bringing your feet together on a lever hop. These are just used to get the feeling of all of your weight being on your hands. Once you have those down, try to bring your feet a little closer together each time until they are all the way together in your handstand. After that, work on fixing the form of your handstand by getting your shoulders directly over your hands and pushing your feet up towards to ceiling.

How did cheerleading become one?

Princeton graduate Thomas Peebles introduced the idea of organized crowds cheering at football games to the University of Minnesota. However, it was not until 1898 that University of Minnesota student Johnny Campbell directed a crowd in cheering "Rah, Rah, Rah! Sku-u-mar, Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah! Varsity! Varsity! Varsity, Minn-e-So-Tah!", making Campbell the very first cheerleader and November 2, 1898 the official birth date of organized cheerleading.

Is cheerleading considered a sport?

Drumline is so a sport. Those other athletes who disagree are fooling themselves. On average a drummer in a drumline has 7 pages of music with 1000's of notes to memorize. On top of that they also have about 50 pages of drill and on field forms to memorize. Also, the drumline is responsible for keeping the tempo steady for the whole band while keeping ever note they play together, clean, and crisp like a granny smith apple. There was a study about the difference between the heart rate and blood pressure of a pro basketball player versus a drumline member, on the field marching a full show with a set of tenors on. The basketball players heart rate was significantly higher than that of the drumline members. This is proof that it takes more mental and physical stamina. I played basketball myself for 8 years, soccer for 4 years, and drumline for 7 years. I've never been so exhausted then when coming off the field after doing a marching band performance as a tenor player.
