Your rifle was made by Savage for Western Auto. It is a Savage Model 46. You can contact Savage for an owners manual. It is a very basic bolt action. Remove the screw on the underside of the forearm to take action out of stock. Push the 2 pins out that hold the trigger group in place, and you can remove the bolt. gunpartscorp was a schematic at their website, under savage 46.

Rifles were made for them by several different companies, and each had several different models. Without knowig the model number, we can only say somewhere between 1 and 26 cartridges.

Montgomery Wards was a department store. Among the products they sold were rifles and shotguns. These were made by other companies, but marked with Montgomery Wards brand name- Westernfield. Your rifle was made for them by Mossberg, and is the equivalent of a Mossberg Model 45B. Made from 1938-1940, these very VERY accurate bolt action rifles. And sorry, no- no manual. Back then the buyer was expected to know something about guns, and they usually did not come with much in the way of instructions. With the exception of taking the action out of the stock, and the bolt out of the action- it is not necessary to disassemble the 146B. If you have taken more things apart, would suggest you take it to a gunsmith. There are no manuals for the 146B due to age.
