How does a compost bin produce heat?
Decomposition of carbon- and nitrogen-rich materials by composting macro- and micro-organisms is the way that compost bins produce heat. The heat represents a mix of influences and inputs from aeration, ambient temperatures, carbon and nitrogen ratios, container sizes and moisture levels. The United States Environmental Protection Agency suggests minimum temperature ranges of 104 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit (40 to 55 degrees Celsius).
Can you put shrimp shells into a compost?
No because shrimps shells do not rot they simply stay as they are xxx
What is the main nutrient that compost produces?
Nitrogen is the main nutrient that compost produces. Dark-colored, fresh-smelling, nutrient-rich compost results from 30 to 1 ratios of carbon- to nitrogen-rich recyclables since the former supplies the energy and the latter the food. The breakdown of compostables and their interaction with one another and with air, heat, macro- and micro-organisms, and moisture yields calcium, copper, hydrogen, iron, manganese, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.
What are the different types of manures?
Animal and human waste products are the different types of manure. Human manure is used in some places of the world, but not in the United States, as a fertilizer. Animal waste products that are used as fertilizers range from beef to dairy, horse, poultry, rabbit, sheep, swine and turkey manures.
Compost is when plants and animal decompose and turn into soil. For anyone with a garden a compost bin, or compost heap, is an excellent way to keep kitchen and garden scraps out of landfill where they decompose anaerobically (that is, without air), so producing methane, a greenhouse gas 20 times more dangerous that carbon dioxide.
It also produces a wonderful compost which can be mixed with soil or used as a mulch to keep moisture in the ground. So in your bin you gradually build up 5 or 6 different layers of:
* sticks and twigs so there will be air in the heap * Nitrogen producing material, foodscraps and green leaves * Carbon producing material, dead and brown leaves, wet and shredded newspaper, pizza boxes
all covered with a wet piece of sacking.
What can you do to make a compost pile produce a lot of compost?
I have found that two readily available ingredients that can make you a lot of compost fast is straw and green grass clippings, but there are so many other things, but to make a lot, you need to use a lot of organic material.
Measure the length, width, and depth of the are you want to spread the mulch.
Why shouldn't you put orange peels in your compost?
I would suggest putting orange peels into a worm farm.
Orange peels smell good, so they will draw pests to your compost.
Why can't all trash be used to make compost?
It's because some can actually hurt the plants, animals, and ecosystems
Banana skins, coffee grounds, egg shells, tomatoes, apple cores (no seeds), leaves, weeds, and any foods that can be grown will compost well.
The compost worms (a tiger worm unlike garden worms) really love cardboard and newspaper.
Some things should not be composted, such as flax leaves, or troublesome weed plants.
Is it better to recycle cardboard or put it in your compost pile?
Definatly recycle it where you can, and with things that you can't or don't want to recycle put those into the compost (like shredded private documents, cardboard that has been contaminated with food like used paper plates, tissues, very small scraps of paper and enevlopes you have ri[[ed the plastic window out of...)
while paper and cardboard is compostable, reusing the paper fibres saves trees.
Will compost piles attract mice?
If food scraps are added to compost piles, they may attract mice. The problem can be reduced by burying the scaps several inches down in the pile when you add them, and layering extra brown material on top. A few aromatic herbs can be tossed on top of the scraps before burying them, to help mask the scent.
A compost bin also helps exclude rodents. Hot composting is another solution. The heat of the pile breaks the kitchen scraps down before they can attract mice.
Considering a few drops of 0.038% malachite green is used in a 100 gallon aquarium to kill fungus infections in fish and considering mycorrhizae is a fungus, of course the green dye in mulches kills any mycorrhizae added. Using the two together is a huge waste of money. Dave B.
Where can you obtain the optional mulch kit for the Weed Eater One?
You will usually find it listed as the Husqvarna 576706901 MK26 mulch kit.
Amazon sells it for $20.
It is naturally red because of cedar wood, which it is made of.
Why does a compost heap feel hot in the middle?
A compost heap is hot in the middle because this is where the microbes are starting to break down the material in the compost heap and as part of their process they generate heat.
some, but much less than the amount it absorbs. Also, as an alternative to fertilizer, it reduces co2 (fertilizer production admits a lot of co2)
Manure that is mixed with and used as compost is what compost waste. Manure may be so nitrogen-rich that it is more serviceable when combined with dark-colored, fresh-smelling, nutrient-rich organic matter whose humus results from human-moderated or nature-induced processes.
