What difference between dental plaque and bacterial plaque?

Plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol , calcium, and other substances found in the blood. When plaque builds up in the arteries, the condition is called atherosclerosis. Plaque narrows the arteries and reduces blood flow to your heart muscle. It also makes it more likely that blood clots will form in your arteries. Blood clots can partially or completely block blood flow.

:) I'm not sure if that's the right plaque, but it's a plaque...

How can you find a free or low cost dental clinic in Pennsylvania?

Contact your state's health department

There are various assistance programs that vary from state to state, so you may want to contact your state dental society to see if there are programs in your area. Another possible source of lower-cost dental care is a dental school clinic. Generally, dental costs in school clinics are reduced and may include only partial payment for professional services covering the cost of materials and equipment. Your state dental society can tell you if there is a dental school clinic in your area.

Can you stop rinsing salt water a week after tooth extractions?

My advice is to wait until you can call your dentist or doctor on the phone to ask about your specific case, because different people may have different complications. Rinsing isn't necessary to healing, so you don't absolutely need to rinse with salt water. So first, you should ask your dentist because he would know best about your specific case. I read several articles using a google search and in general the consensus seems to be that you shouldn't rinse with salt water until at least 24 hours after extraction. After 24 hours it seems to be okay, but there is always the risk of knocking out the blood clot and getting dry socket. You should read the article below on dry socket. You don't want to get dry socket, so you should definitely avoid sucking at the blood clot, or excessive rinsing, or smoking, or anything else that could dislodge the blood clot. Rinsing with salt water is supposed to be soothing, and is also supposed to be beneficial. However, you have to make sure not to rinse excessively, and you should make sure to ask your dentist or doctor when it is proper to begin rinsing, and also how often you should rinse, making sure not to rinse too often. Dry socket: http://www.dentalgentlecare.com/dry_socket.htm These websites all have information on rinsing with salt water after a tooth extraction. http://www.animated-teeth.com/tooth_extractions/t7_instructions_post-op.htm http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dentistry-966/use-warm-salt-water-1.htm http://ezinearticles.com/?What-to-Do-after-a-Tooth-Extraction?&id=348305 http://sci.tech-archive.net/Archive/sci.med.dentistry/2008-03/msg00071.html Google search for "rinse with salt water after tooth extraction" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=rinse+with+salt+water+after+tooth+extraction&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

When should you have wisdom teeth removed?

So long as they're healthy and not causing problems with your jaw, there's no need to have wisdom teeth removed. Everyone's teeth are different, so any decision to keep or remove wisdom teeth should be made in conjunction with your dentist and/or orthodontist.

Do teeth grow?

---------- Actually I am living proof that adult permanent teeth (at least my two front ones) do indeed slowly grow as they wear down. When I was a kid, I had an accident that damaged the outer surface of my two front middle lower teeth below the gumline. As I aged, the marks slowly showed higher and higher on my teeth and now I am 61 and the marks have almost disappeared off the top of my teeth. It has taken something like 50 years for the tooth to grow the length of itself above the gumline. If you think of it, as a tooth wears, it must indeed keep replacing itself, otherwise older people would have nothing left of their teeth, just nubs. And this also shows me that indeed my teeth have worn that much in 60 years. I mentioned this to my dentist yesterday, and he as much as called me stupid for suggesting that adult teeth grew. Not possible said he, I must be confused and mistaken.

What is the purpose of wisdom teeth?

Anthropologists believe wisdom teeth, or the third set of molars, were the evolutionary answer to our ancestor's early diet of coarse, rough food - like leaves, roots, nuts and meats - which required more chewing power and resulted in excessive wear of the teeth. The modern diet with its softer foods, along with marvels of modern technologies such as forks, spoons and knives, has made the need for wisdom teeth nonexistent. As a result, evolutionary biologists now classify wisdom teeth as vestigial organs, or body parts that have become functionless due to evolution.

Because human jaws have become smaller throughout evolutionary history, when wisdom teeth form they often become impacted, or blocked, by the other teeth around them. Also, if the tooth partially erupts, food can get trapped in the gum tissue surrounding it, which can lead to bacteria growth and, possibly, a serious infection.

When you get your wisdom teeth pulled do you need to pay up front or does the dentist bill your insurance?

It depends on your dentist. They might make you pay up front but then they should submit the claim to your insurance company for you. Ask how much they are going to charge you as some of them charge over the fee guide amount so you have to may the extra 20 or so percent.

How can you prevent damage in your teeth made by soda?

well, I'm going to use coke for an example, out a tooth i a cup of coke and keep it there for the night, see what happens.when i did it, the tooth had dissapeared. this proves that soda is bad for you teeth. if you don't believe me, find out yourself.

What do you need to know about wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth or third molars are usually the last teeth to develop, and are located in the back of your mouth. They usually have developed between the ages of 17 and 24. The jaws of modern humans are normally not large enough for the wisdom teeth to enter into the mouth and become fully functional. When this occurs they are classified as 'impacted', meaning that they are blocked by another tooth or bone and are therefore prevented from entering and assuming a normal position in the mouth. A special x-ray of your teeth and jaws called an OPG (orthopantomogram) can determine if your wisdom teeth are impacted.

Has anyone had experience with dentists in or around Juarez?

I used a clinic in Cuidad Juarez this past April of 2008. I flew in from FL and stayed a week in El Paso. The prices were reasonable and the staff was great with no language issues whatsoever. I had three bridges, a root canal, and several crowns installed. The root canal was very painful as the staff was unable to numb me enough although there was no shortage of shots trying. The temporary crowns on my front teeth were crude and ugly and fell out within a day or two. One of the bridges was placed on a tooth that they put a post in. This bridge was loose in a month as the anchor tooth wasn't adequate. The rear anchor was quite solid, however, and was a very unpleasant experience and costly to remove along with the posted tooth. They did refund the money I paid them for that bridge with no hassles, but I'm left with missing teeth and the pain and expense of the bridge removal. Now that I've lived with the remaining two bridges and crowns for awhile, I have these observations. The front crowns look good but are much closer together than before and difficult to floss. I've had two local dentist appointments for adjustment issues on the bridges that I didn't notice when in Juarez. The two remaining bridges seem wider and flatter than my original teeth. They are adequate and I hope they remain so but my overall view is that they do not remotely compare, quality-wise, to a previous bridge that I had for 14 years. Again the people were nice but I spent a bunch of money and didn't get what I'd hoped and paid for. All things considered, I cannot recommend this clinic. Tom Geren ... Travel, Dental Care and Dental Tourism There is a growing phenomena called "Dental Tourism" in which people travel to a destination that offers less expensive dental care. The decision to visit another country for dental care should go beyond simply comparing prices or even evaluating the dentists' expertise. Countries differ in their standards for infection control and safety. The use of fresh gloves, sterile instruments and safe water are not standard practice in all countries. Without these precautions, patients could be infected with diseases such as hepatitis B. Before considering such trips, it is important to be prepared by using information such as that contained in OSAP's Traveler's Guide. How long till you can smoke after having a tooth out?

I just got back from having three fillings. The dentist knows i smoke and didn't say whether i could or couldn't. I don't quite know the answer, but i can tell you i just smoked and I'm not too worried. The only difficulty is trying to find your mouth. lol . I just smoked on the right side of my mouth (since i cant feel the other side). You will feel awkward smoking when your numb, but it wont bother you too much. Sorry i cant give you a professional answer, but hopefully my opinion will help a little.
