Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR)

DLSR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex or Digital SLR and are more complex than your everyday point and shoot digital camera. DSLRs take more quality pictures than regular cameras and have more options and features that you use, such as the number of pictures you can take in a small amount of time and the different lenses you can use. Also these cameras have more manual settings that you can change resulting in the ability to take different photographs.

As you probably have guessed, the term 'DSLR' is an abbreviation. Digital Single Lens Reflex is the full term. In most cameras, there is a mirror inside. That's basically what it means, though I do think this answer requires an edit.

Who invented the Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera?

Single-lens reflex cameras were first developed for large film sizes like l20 AND 4x5. tThe Famed firm of Graflex got the ball(or bellows) rolling. the Graflex(not the speed graphic ) introduced the graphic reflex camera in the early l900"s. The Germans and also the Bnritish picked up on the design. ealry slrs were bulky due to the hoysing for the hood and reflex mirror-some siad the old graflexes resmebled a scale model of a marine grain elevator when(Up0) withthe advent of 35MM filjm it was only amatter of time before a 35Mm Reflex became possible then popular. it is believed the Japanese Pentax with the pentaprism(five elements) solved theeye-level slr task )-there wee waist level s l r camera in 35 inthe thirties such as the German Exakta. The Pentax derives its name form penta meaing five (like Pentagon) and the pentaprism device whichy permiots eye-level SLR VIEWING. cAMNE OUT AFTER wAR 2.

This is a puzzler. The first commercially successful SLRs were probably the VP Exactas, which, by 1936 had evolved into the Kine Exacta, the world's first 35mm SLR.

The first instant return mirror was in the Gamma Duflex of 1943, but there was a war on and the system was unreliable, which is why the 1953 Asahiflex II (Pentax ancestor) is generally accepted as the first.

The 1948 Contax S (Made by the company that became Praktica) was the first SLR with a pentaprism, it also introduced the 42mm, 'Pentax screw.'

By the mid '50s, retrofocus design was perfected, enabling SLRs to accept wideangle lenses, and all of these innovations allowed the 35mm SLR to displace the rangefinder as the professionals' choice.

What is digital single reflex lens?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A Digital Single Reflex Lens or DSLR is a type of camera which uses a series of mirrors inside the camera, so that when you look inside the viewfinder of a DSLR, then you will see almost precisely what the camera sensor sees, accurate to a few thousandths of a millimetre. This construction of the mirrors makes the camera more expensive to make, and most cameras simply use the easier and cheaper method, digital viewfinders, which only work when the camera is turned on, whereas on a DSLR, you can look through it anytime (as long as the lens cap is off!)

How does a DSLR camera work?

User Avatar

Like a film camera, a camcorder "sees" the world through lenses. In a film camera, the lenses serve to focus the light from a scene onto film treated with chemicals that have a controlled reaction to light. In this way, camera film records the scene in front of it: It picks up greater amounts of light from brighter parts of the scene, and lower amounts of light from darker parts of the scene. The lens in a camcorder also serves to focus light, but instead of focusing it onto film, it shines the light onto a small semiconductor image sensor. This sensor, a charge-coupled device (CCD), measures light with a half-inch (about 1 cm) panel of 300,000 to 500,000 tiny light-sensitive diodes calledphotosites.

Each photosite measures the amount of light (photons) that hits a particular point, and translates this information into electrons (electrical charges): A brighter image is represented by a higher electrical charge, and a darker image is represented by a lower electrical charge. Just as an artist sketches a scene by contrasting dark areas with light areas, a CCD creates a video picture by recording light intensity. During playback, this information directs the intensity of a television's electron beam as it passes over the screen.

Does any dslr use minolta autofocus lens?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, the SONY ALPHA series of DSLRs have the MINOLTA mount. When Sony took over the Minolta business line, they continued the proprietary MINOLTA lens mount and the Minolta flash shoe, which are unique- that is, ONLY A MINOLTA OR SONY LENS OR FLASH WILL FIT A SONY ALPHA camera.

There might be some drawbacks, however. Depending on the focal length, year of production, number of electronic contacts, and type of Minolta AF lens (check the number of gold contacts on the side of the lens that goes into the camera), some of the lenses that have more that five (5) contacts might not work perfectly with the SONY Alpha camera. This is because most of the MINOLTA lenses with 7 or more contacts are POWER ZOOMS- that is, they zoom in and out if you twist the lens grip/ body under power from the camera. SONY has NOT continued this technology, and so the POWER ZOOM MINOLTA LENS will definitely not zoom in and out if mounted on a SONY ALPHA camera body.

In its final years of production before the SONY takeover, MINOLTA made so many lenses with so many technological features (such as the POWER ZOOM) built into the lenses themselves.

But don't worry...the best thing about having good old MINOLTA AF lenses is that they WILL fit a SONY ALPHA DLSR body. It's up to you to play with the combination of lenses and camera bodies to see what ANTIQUE (Minolta lens) you can still use with a SUPER NEW (Sony Alpha) camera. That's where most of the fun of photography is.

When i was taking pictures on my dslr with a sandisk 16gb sd card it only let me take a couple before it said memory full what can you do?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Thats odd- 16gb is plenty of room for all low and most higher end DSLR camera even shooting 'RAW' photos (no compression). For example, with a Canon 5D mrkII (over 20mp camera) I can take 400+ photos with highest quality settings before the card is full. Try importing all photos from the memory card onto your computer and then re format the 16gb card via your camera, this might solve the problem. If that doesn't work bring the card back where your brought it and exchange the card.

What does it mean when a camera DSLR has 3 frames per second?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It means that the camera can take 3 photographs/pictures per second. So this is very useful for taking photos of a moving object/person/animal ESP if they are running for example. Then being a digital camera one can pick the images they like best on a computer without the cost of printing them all.

What is the difference between a superzoom and a dslr?

User Avatar

Asked by Choco6666

The term hyperzoom or superzoom is used to advertise photographic zoom lenses with unconventionally large focal length factors, typically more than 4× and ranging up to 15×, e.g., 35 mm to 350 mm. The largest ratio for digital SLR cameras is held by the Tamron 18-270 mm, giving 15×. Some compact digital cameras have even larger zoom ratios up to 35×. For movie and television use, Panavision holds the record with their 300X HD Lens

Is the Canon PowerShot sx30 a dslr?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First Anwser: No, because there is no removable lens on the SX30 it is not classified as a D-SLR.a

Finay Balfour: Actually, a few Bridge cameras have removable lenses, but that doesn't make it as DSLR. DSLR stands for "Digital Single Lens Reflex", which means that it has a mirror which bounces the view from the lens to the viewfinder, and locks up when you want to take the picture, and that makes the clonking sound widely related to DSLR cameras.

So, to conclude, no, the powershot is not a DSLR, because it does not have a Single Lens Reflex mirror lock up system.
