Is dyslexia hereditary?

There is some evidence to suggest genetics play a part in developmental dyslexia (you are born with it). If a child has one dyslexic parent then a boy has a 50% chance of being dyslexic, a girl has a 25% chance. However, it sometimes skips the female children but they become carriers for their children. Check the web sites of the British Dyslexia Association for references and details.

What are the different severities of dyslexia?

That's a really good question! Dyslexia comes in all shapes and sizes, anything from getting your left and right confused, to a complete inability to read language in any form whatsoever. Dyslexia can be anywhere from a slight annoyance, to a complete debilitating disorder! I have dyslexia that is extraordinarily severe, and I am writing this post with voice recognition software because of it. My dyslexia is pretty much debilitating. Some people who say they have dyslexia merely get their left and right or red and green confused, and then there are people like me who can't even read signs telling them not to touch live wires. As you can see, dyslexia is a pretty wide spectrum.

Is autism like dyslexia?

NO, Autism is nothing like dyslexia, Dyslexia is a trouble with percieving reading, autism is a completely different mindset

What happens when you get dyslexia?

... then apparently you also have trouble forming complete and coherent sentences.

That aside, "dyslexia" refers to a difficulty in reading, due in part to mistaking visually similar letters such as b and d. Since you didn't actually finish your question, it's hard to say what else you wanted to know about it.

Whilst this is true dyslexia just means that you have different abilities and difficulties than "the norm". For example spelling and reading may be some of the things that you find most difficult. But when other people cannot see things from a different angle and cannot find solutions to problems, YOU CAN. A lot of dyslexic people are a lot more creative. AND within the sector of the world deemed "exceptionally successful" 40% are dyslexic opposed to the 10% of the overall population of dyslexics. This shows that dyslexic people can do anything they want should they want too. :)

What is Profound Dyslexia?

There is probably no one in the world better equipped to answer this question and yours truly. I have extremely severe dyslexia, and I'm writing this post with voice recognition software because of it. My dyslexia works something like this: no matter how hard I try I can not learn to read, I cannot learn to write or spell either. When I look at the letters they dance around, some of them turning as those they are on skateboards, some of them merely sharply moving towards the center of the page and then back out. I can not process how the English language works, the words won't stand still long enough for me to sound them out, and it is so frustrating! I literally can not read anything. As you can imagine, that makes life very difficult! So I guess my answer to your question would be as follows: the inability to process the English language, the sensation that the letters are moving around the page uncontrollably, and in extreme difficulty in spelling and handwriting.

What is the opposite of dyslexia?

Dyslexia isn't the kind of thing you 'get,' it's something that you have. Like Asperger's, autism, ADD, or brown hair.

It can be diagnosed and treated at any age, but it often goes undiagnosed and untreated.

Is it possible to have ADD and dyslexia?

I learned that ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Being married to my wife who has dyslexia has taught me that the subject can be saying just the opposite of what they actually mean. Dyslexia is where the brain does not process information correctly and turns things around when they speak or think.

What disorder is worse and why autism or dyslexia?

This question is a bit biased; as many of those with high-functioning autism see it not as a curse, but a gift.

But common brain disorders which would be considered more debilitating than autism include Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and Huntington's chorea.

Could my child really have dyslexia?

Can people with dyspraxia drive?

I got this by goggling the subject on the National Autistic Society-Driving.

http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=119&a=12991

their site is added below related links.

The NAS Autism Help line occasionally gets asked about the rights of people with autism in relation to learning to drive. As autism is a spectrum disorder it is impossible to say that people with autism either should or should not be allowed to drive. Some people with autism may find this skill extremely difficult to grasp, while others will be highly competent drivers.

Are there educational techniques that help prevent dyslexia?

It is not 'treated' . You learn to live with it and find 'different' ways of learning and reading. Coloured glasses can help to read better but you need the 'right' colour for your eyes. Persistence is also important when reading. There are advantages to being dyslexic in that you learn in different ways.
