Effexor (Venlafaxine)

Not too long. A couple of weeks. My Doc prescribed that stuff for me because of heart palpitations "brought on by panic attacks". The fact that my heart would skip beats is what MADE me panic!!! Anyhow, I know how you feel. I called it, 'The Fuzzies". Like an odd electric shock from my tongue to my legs every 15 minutes or so. Stay cool, you'll be alright. I was worried it wouldn't stop but it did! Take care and be safe. Dan I must disagree with the above. While it depends on the amount you are taking, they last several weeks and are extremely serious. You were very lucky if all you got was a fuzzy feeling and leg disconfort for 15 minutes. Statistically, 78% of those who take the medication and try to come off go through a lot of mental and physical pain. I am one of those. L.

I wouldn't suggest it. Firstly, imitrex works by blocking the pain receptors in your brain to stop the migraines. It is an abortive medication (stops the migraine from getting worse when you feel it coming on), so if the norco is for the pain of the migraines you may just need to add a preventative medication instead of taking norco. Norco is for moderate to severe pain usually prescribed after surgery, and is very addictive. The preventative medication (a med that keeps the migraines from starting or at least from coming on so frequently) is a better option. If you take the two together you will most likely not be able to function for quite a while, and from what I've read things like vicodin and norco (basically double strength vicodin with less acetaminophen or "tylenol") can cause what's called "rebound headaches" and make your migraines worse or more frequent overall. If the norco is for a different kind of pain, I would suggest taking it at a different time than you take the imitrex so you're not completely out of it. I know when I even take one imitrex, it usually puts me to sleep for approximately 4 hours due to the strength and purpose of the drug. Adding norco would put me out for a long time, most likely all day/night. Just remember norco is a very difficult drug to get off of, highly addictive and habit forming. Be careful with that norco, adding a preventative med would be a much safer and more effective way of managing chronic migraine pain. Hope this helps and that you feel better soon.

It can be completely okay to do so. Effexor is an activating anti depressant. Meaning if you tend to get sleepy and low energy with a depression, it is a good choice. Lamictal is a mood stabilizer. Abilify has multiple uses. It can enhance a anti depressant, it can level a manic state, or be used at an anti psychotic. ALWAYS, ask your doctor why he is giving you a med. Typically, with meds of this kind, if you decide to stop taking them, backing off should be done under a doctor's care. Just stopping all at once is dangerous, and can lead to some pretty dramatic mood swings in some people. The typical route is to slowly reduce dosage and monitor for trouble as you go. The side effects of a sudden stop in this med (or even a gradual one) may possibly include mood changes, promiscuity, death ideation, suicidal ideation, depression, euphoria, anxiety, etc.

Currently I am taking 400mg Seroquel XR and 500mg Depacote ER 2x a day, no problems, so I would say yes.

I read the info sheet on this drug as I wanted to cut them in half and it did not say not to cut them in half and I have used them cut in half. call your pharmacy to make sure .

It can be quite difficult depending on what antidepressants you are taking. You really just need to watch what u eat, get plenty of rest, and exercise at least 3x's a week. This has helped me to lose and maintain my weight. I am on lithium, which is a major weight gainer! But I have kept my weight under control doing the things I mentioned above. And also, drink plenty of water. Hope I helped ya! : )

yes, u can take tem together effexor xr in the am, trazadone in the evening and xanax as needed. be careful how much xanax he uses, it can cause increased depression. as the dosage of effexo is increased it covers anxiety so the xanax may not be needed so much. hope this helps..

I'm not much of a specialist here, but it looks like these two have somewhat opposite effects. Ginseng ramps you up while an antidepressant calms you down. I wouldn't do that.

A definite yes. I am currently taking seroquel and zyprexa and i just talked to the pharmacist to see if i can take trazadone with these to help me sleep. He assured me the combination is fine.

Effexor does not seem to make me sleepy or energetic. Though side effect are only suppose to happen to 10% of those who take Effexor (I read).

Effexor is an SNRI antidepressant and has no recreational or abuse potential. It is not a street drug and would be unlikely to have any street value

I posted this question because I am considering switching medications and am nervous about it due to so many adverse accounts I've been reading on the internet. I have been taking Lexapro 15mg for 2 years for GAD treatment. I had dry mouth at first, but it went away quickly. The mental effects have been wonderful and I feel like "me" again without all the worrying. My reason for switching is due to extreme lethargy (sleeping 10 hours a night then taking 2 hour naps mid-day!), night sweats, and absolutely NO libido. I though I could deal with the libido thing, but after 2 years it's driving me crazy. My doctor suggested I try Effexor XR because at a low dose (75mg) she thinks it wouldn't effect my sex drive nor make me so sleepy, yet would still treat my GAD. I was all for it today in her office, but when I came home and started researching Effexor on the web, I am reading so many terrifying reviews about it--mostly of its horrible withdrawal symptoms. Does anyone out there have any experience with this? Should I stay put with Lexapro or go forward with Effexor? Or is there something else that would work better?? Help! PS I am also taking birth control (Yaz), which may or may not have anything to do with this scenario, but I thought yaou should know my whole medical situation.

I don't know if it is dangerous, but i do know it is a very strong anti depressant. The doctor put me on this my junior year in high school and to this day (now 22) i remember exactly how it made me feel. I was more angry on it, i felt a constant fuzz feeling in my brain, and i felt like i was more out of control on it then i was before i got on it. After I got into an argument that i had started for no apparent reason i quit taking it that day and never returned to that doctor. I remember the urge to literally hurt somebody. I was shortly put on another medication that i can't remember the name but i had NONE of the effects that i did from effexor..
