Ferrets are obligate carnivores and cannot digest fruits, vegetables, grains, milk, and sugar. Feeding these items is unhealthy and can lead to disease later in life. Raisins and grapes are actually toxic to ferrets.
Kibble should have at least 35% protein, 20% fat, and have less than 3% fiber. At least 4 of the first 6 ingredients should be meat. They can eat fish like whitefish and salmon but avoid varieties high in Mercury such as tuna. Feeding fish does make their poo smellier so give it sparingly.
Cat/kitten food can be fed providing it meets the criteria above. Dog food does not contain taurine and is not good for ferrets
Good treats are meat based: cooked/raw meats (chicken, turkey, rabbit, beef), scrambled or raw eggs, meat baby food. Most ferret love Ferretone or olive oil.

Can switching a ferrets food cause diarrhea?
Changing your ferrets food can cause mild diarrhea because their short intestinal tract is very sensitive to changes in diet. Anytime you change a ferret diet, it should be done gradually to avoid upset stomach. Diarrhea in ferrets can be dangerous because loss of fluids can cause dehydration. It is important that your ferret have water available at all times. If a ferret is given a food that causes diarrhea for several days consecutively, dehydration might result, and the stress might induce a secondary infectious diarrheal disease.
Diarrhea is a symptom and not a disease, it is indicative of a problem which may be serious or minor.
Infectious diarrhea in ferrets can be caused by
* Parasites * Bacteria * Viruses There are also other miscellaneous causes of diarrhea in ferrets such as cancers, two or more diseases present, stress. If diarrhea persists, seek veterinarian advise.

Badgers are carnivorous mammals and is a common name for any animal of three subfamilies, in the family Mustelidae:the same mammal family as ferrets, weasels, otters, and several other types of weasels. Typical badgers like Meles, Arctonyx, Taxidea and Mellivora species are short-legged and heavy-set. The lower jaw is articulated to the upper by means of a transverse condyle firmly locked into a long cavity of the cranium, so that dislocation of the jaw is all but impossible. This enables the badger to maintain its hold with the utmost tenacity, but limits the jaw movement to hinging open and shut or sliding from side to side. The behavior of badgers differs by family, but all shelter underground, living in burrows called setts. Some are solitary, moving from home to home, while others are known to form clans. Clan size varies between 2 to 15 badgers. Badgers are fierce and will protect themselves and their young at any cost. Badgers are capable of fighting off much larger animals like wolves, coyotes and bears.
There are many different types of badgers but one of the most common is the European badger. This mammal has 2 black stripes going down it's face to scare away predator's. Badgers live in 'setts' which consist of a series of tunnels and 'rooms' called 'chambers'. Badgers are omnivores and eat earthworms, fruit and many of them enjoy peanuts. The females are slightly smaller than the males reaching roughly about just under 1 meter. Badgers can be found in wooded areas and are commonly seen in gardens of homes at night. (they are nocturnal).

It depends on how old the ferret is...
Young Ferret: Young ferrets are more hyper than older ferrets. Young ferrets sleep a lot, but when let out of the cage, they jump around and like to get into things. Despite being so hyper, ferrets are best trained to stay calm when they're young. Encouraging ferrets to be held at a young age usually makes older ferrets more content with being held.
Old Ferret: Older ferrets can still be hyper, but if at taught at a young age, can happily cuddle and even sleep in your arms.
The following animals are all members of the Mustelidae family and are closely related to each other: Ferrets, Otters, Martens, Badgers, Weasels, Wolverines, Stoats and Polecats
