A three-sided piece of wood, or other material , one angle of which is square, used under the roofing on a flat roof where the horizontal surface abuts a vertical wall or parapet. Each different type of laminate flooring comes in different size cartons. So it's necessary to know how many square feet of flooring there are in each carton of the flooring you're going to install. Look at the label on the box - the square feet per carton will be listed.

First, you must convert the size of your tiles (inches) to the same measurement used to describe the room size (square feet). To figure the number of square feet per tile:

16" x 16" = 256 square inches per tile.

Next, consider that there are 144 square inches in one square foot (12 in x 12 in).

Most often, sanded grout is used for floor tiles because the grout lines are usually greater than 1/8" wide. Sanded grout is necessary for the wider lines to give added strength, and to keep your grout from cracking and chipping out. Unsanded grout must be used if your grout lines are narrower than 1/8", because the grains of sand in sanded grout could cause air pockets and prevent good adhesion to your tiles - and it will crack and chip out as well. Sanded and unsanded grouts are cement-based.

One alternative grout on the market is epoxy-based. It is neither sanded nor unsanded, but will work fine in either narrow or wider grout lines.

If your grout lines are wider than 1/2", or if you are using saltillo tiles, you must use saltillo grout. Other grouts will not handle this wider width.

You can get a cement that will also work as a grout but a pure grout would not have the adhesion required to stick the tiles to the wall properly, you should not use it as a cement.

Plywood sub floors are about 12 to 13% here in Northern Calif. and the wood flooring is usually from 7-9 % .Now of coarse moisture and RH plays into the picture too. The ocean & lake areas may have a greater % of moisture in their wood sub floors due to greater RH

Your answer depends on how many tiles come in each box. All brands of tile are different - your boxes may contain 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, or 18 tiles in each box.

Do you mean to say your room is 117 SQUARE feet? If each tile measures 12" x 12" (or one foot by one foot), then each tile is one square foot. With this size of tile, the math is easy. You'd need 117 tiles.

Check the labeling on your boxes, and do the math: 117 square feet divided by the number of tiles in each box. The result is the number of boxes you'll need.

Having tiles untold bathrooms I always do the floor LAST this saves dropping tiles etc on to the nice new expensive tile. However, when tiling the walls first leave out the bottom row of wall tile (here you can place your straight edge datum, put in the floor tile then set that last row of wall tile and leave a 1/8" gap between the floor and wall tiles and fill with same water proof grout as the floor tiles have
