No. A food web is how a whole bunch of organisms--generally an ecosystem-- are connected with each other through how they eat. A food chain starts with one organism and continues down that one line.

The real base of the food chain in the sea is the sun... but apart from that, there is no real definitive answer or, I should say, the base of the food chain in a sea are all the photosynthetic( produce food by light) and chemosynthetic (produce food through chemical reactions) organisms that are fed upon by others, eg. algae, seaweed, types of plankton, cyanobacteria.

If the producers happen to be large trees, they can be small in number but still have a large biomass, therefore allowing them to support a community of more consumers.

Well a lot of the energy is used in keeping the animal alive, only a portion of the energy is used for growth. So when a deer eats plants, a lot of the energy is used to keep the deer's homeostasis stable, so if a wolf eats a deer it only gets the deer's residual energy.

Producers are vitally important to the food chain because without them, the food chain would not exist. Think of it like this: If there were no grass (a producer) than the rabbit would not be able to eat it and gain its energy, so the wolf wouldn't be able to eat the rabbit and obtain its energy because the rabbit would have died of starvation.

Energy can be lost in a food chain by heat or waste.

because if the predator is all extinct, the animal that was hunted would get over populated, if the herbivoire went, thethe grass or plants would over grow, also if the grass wnt'extinct' he herbivoire, could get no food, the predators would die too as all the hebivoires they eat would be dead.
