There are many different reasons why a spirt or ghost haunts you. One of the reasons may be because the ghost is board, or maybe the ghost is a bad one and likes to terrize people, or the spirt or ghost wants your help, maybe even the ghost knew you and watches you. No one really knows the answer except the spirt or the ghost that is haunting you.

Poltergeist, from the German meaning Noisy Ghost, is always attributed to be very noisy and to be able to move objects sometimes very heavy across a room with apparent ease. A ghost is more commonly a spirit of someone who having departed this world, generally doesn't wish to cause disruption in a way such as a poltergeist does.

A widely accepted theory is that young children under a certain age (of which the age varies between children) can see ghosts more readily than adults as they tend to be more openly acceptable to the idea of ghosts being real. As they grow older, they tend to stop seeing ghosts because they 1) focus more on complex manners such as school, work, and family, and 2) they learn about other people's perceptions of whether ghosts exist. Adults that tend to see ghosts have either seen them as kids and so have kept their minds open whilst growing up or have been receptive to a ghosts energy or presence.

Generally a spirit will imprint itself on an object or location that had special meaning to them when alive. Hence most ghosts tend to be attributed to buildings or their last hours on this earth, or a time of great fear or dread such as fields where a long ago battle took place.

Sometimes a spirit is so attached to a person as they were when alive or they thought of that person at the point of death, that they became imprinted on that person so when they move house, the spirit moves too.
