A Gen3 glock can be easily identified by its accessory rail, finger-groove grip and sandy-type grip panels. There is no easily picked out number that specifically identifies the Gen3.

A Gen2 or Gen1 glock lacks the finger grooves and accessory rail, and a Gen4 Glock has deep square checkering on the grip panels and interchangeable back-straps.
