Try going to your supermarket and going to Free from area as they should have everything that are free from or you can try making it, it may not be as good as the Pre-made ones but at least you know its gluten free.

This is a very important question that everyone with Hashimoto's should be asking. I can only tell you from my experiences even though there are some articles in a few medical journals from around the world which show a higher incidence of Hashimoto's with people who've been diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance.

I know that when my patients avoid gluten they will recover much more quickly than those who don't. I also know that for some reason the avoidance of gluten will low people's thyroid antibodies.

One woman whom I was sure had Hashimoto's showed normal thyroid antibodies on a lab test. This was a test she had done the year before. I asked her is she had been avoiding gluten at the time of this test, and she had been.

I asked her to eat gluten for three days and to repeat the lab test, which we did. Her antibodies were high. Now, they may have been high before she reintroduced gluten but she remarked feeling much worse after it.

I've been considering the connection between the thyroid and the small intestines... embryonically they come from the same germ layer, what's called the endoderm. Maybe there is some connection with inflammation of the gut and inflammation of the thyroid.

You can have thyroid inflammation and not have Hashimoto's. But you cannot have Hashimoto's without having thyroid inflammation. Thyroid inflammation that goes on for a long time has a very high risk of developing into Hashimoto's.

That will vary a great deal depending on what food item you are analysing. For example, fruits and veg will have no gluten in, in any country (since gluten is only found in grains such as wheat, oats and rye). However bread will have a significant amount of gluten in (unless it's labelled "gluten free"), as will any food items made from wheat flour, oats or rye (and some other grains). Gluten percentage doesn't usually vary between countries when comparing similar food items (for example a white bread loaf in the UK will have a similar gluten content to a white bread loaf in the US). "Country" makes very little difference when comparing gluten content; it is the item of food itself that determines gluten content.

Amstel Light is NOT gluten free. As with most beers, it is made from barley, which contains gluten. There are actual gluten free beers around, though. Redbridge, New Grist, and Bard's are all pretty easy to find.

Clear Jel is modified cornstarch- that is the only ingredient. As such, it does not naturally contain wheat gluten. However, Clear Jel is processed in a facility where cross contamination is almost guaranteed. While the amount of gluten that occurs in Clear Jel from cross contamination may be tolerable to some individuals with gluten sensitivity, it should be avoided by those with Celiac and strong gluten sensitivity.

It would be possible for a manufacturer of GF foods to make a GF Clear Jel type product by processing it in a GF facility.
