Is Green tea with Lemon good for you?

Yes. Green tea is known to be healthy, and lemon adds vitamin C. There are additional benefits of the combination: tea can inhibit iron absorption, but vitamin C improves iron absorption, counteracting this effect. The vitamin C in the lemon may also improve absorption of some of the antioxidants in the tea.

It can also be healthy to drink green tea blended with various lemon-scented herbs, such as lemongrass, lemon balm, lemon verbena, or lemon myrtle, as these herbs also have many positive effects on health.

Why are some green tea not green and some are?

This depends on the production process for the tea; steamed teas (including most Japanese teas, Sencha, Bancha, Kukicha, etc.) tend to be greener in color than pan-fired teas (which include most Chinese green teas -- Dragon Well, Bi Luo Chun, Chun Mee, Gunpowder, etc.).

The greenest loose-leaf tea is Gyokuro. Gyokuro is even greener than other Japanese teas because the tea plants are shaded for a few weeks before gathering. This makes the leaves produce more chlorophyll, in an attempt to get as much energy out of less light.

The greenest tea of all is Matcha; it is made from Gyokuro plants, but then powdered. It retains a bright opaque green color in the final brewed cup because all of the powder is added directly to the cup.

Also, why are some teas "green" than others? Different teas are produced in ways that are better for the environment than others!

Is japan green tea acidic or alkaline?

Japanese green tea, like most green tea, is mildly acidic. Keep in mind that most food and drink is also mildly acidic, so relative to many common foods and drink (such as fruit juice), green tea tends more towards the alkaline side, but it is still more acidic than milk or water.

The acidity will be greatest if you brew the tea with a greater leaf to water ratio, and if you use longer steeping time, as this leads to greater concentrations of organic compounds in the water.

The level of acidity in tea is not a matter of concern; it is within the normal range for food and drink and poses no health risks.

Does green tea have a high level of aluminum?

Only if it is cultivated in extremely acidic soils. Acidic soils are extremely common when tea is grown non-organic with excessive ammonium nitrogen fertilization which is almost always the case in Japan. Basically, the more nitrogen applied the more aluminum the plant will uptake. Avoid non-organic Japanese green tea and you'll be just fine!

Does green tea work for weight loss?

Green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism), plus also had a significant effect on fat oxidation. While some of the effects were originally theorized to be due to the caffeine content of green tea, the researchers discovered that the tea actually has properties that go beyond those that would be explained by the caffeine. Green tea is particularly rich in a type of polyphenols called catechins. These substances have also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties, but recent research in animals show that catechins may also affect body fat accumulation and cholesterol levels. Researchers looked at the effects of catechins on body fat reduction and weight loss in a group of 35 Japanese men. The men had similar weights based on theirBMI (body mass index, an indicator of body fat) and waist sizes. The men were divided into two groups. For three months, the first group drank a bottle of oolong tea fortified with green tea extract containing 690 milligrams of catechins, and the other group drank a bottle of oolong tea with 22 milligrams of catechins. During this time, the men ate identical breakfasts and dinners and were instructed to control their calorie and fat intake at all times so that overall total diets were similar. After three months, the study showed that the men who drank the green tea extract lost more weight (5.3 pounds vs. 2.9 pounds) and experienced a significantly greater decrease in BMI, waist size, and total body fat. In addition, LDL "bad" cholesterol went down in the men who drank the green tea extract. The catechin content varies by amount of green tea used and steeping time. But general recommendations, based on previous studies on the benefits of green tea, are at least 4 cups a day. Green tea extract supplements are also available. Researchers say the results indicate that catechins in green tea not only help burn calories and lower LDL cholesterol but may also be able to mildly reduce body fat. "These results suggest that catechins contribute to the prevention of and improvement in various lifestyle-related diseases, particularly obesity," write researcher Tomonori Nagao of Health Care Products Research Laboratories in Tokyo, and colleagues.
