It really depends on the value of the headphones. If they're the mini type or earbud type, even though they're most likely repairable, unless they're worth more than a technician's wages for resoldering on a new plug, it's probably cheaper to just replace them.

The rechargable cells are low on power. Charge them back up and all will be well... UNLESS.... they are at the end of their life cycle (been charged to the max) and then it is a bit of a hassle to pull off the cushion of the left ear piece, unscreww the cover plate, unsolder and solder in a new set of battery cells.

There's nothing wrong with that, the contacts are designed to line up no matter if it's mono, stereo, or stereo with a mic (or mono with a mic!).

Would need a bit more info on what you're listening to/where you are. Crackling on a radio is weak signal....maybe a video you're watching has bad sound.

Otherwise the headphones aren't very good or damaged. Replace them or maybe fiddle with the wires a little.
