What states is it illegal to have hedgehogs?
I am not sure what country you live in, because the laws differ from country to country. Some say it is illegal to have certain animals from the wild (.i.e. undomesticated) but most will allow you some animals (im presuming hedgehogs because they are very popular in some places)if you have a permit which you pay for. The reason for this is so authorities can monitor:
+who is keeping wild animals
+the conditions they are kept in (wild animals are treated differently to domesticated animals and require different foods etc)
+wild animals can spread diseases to humans and authorities need to watch this
+monitor animal species numbers (they need to know how many are in the wild/or how many are captive)
Examples of animals needing a licence permit in South Africa are the tortoise and marmoset monkey.

Treats should also be given in moderation.

Do hedgehogs live in Minnesota?
They do in domestic situations, but not in the wild. Hedgehogs usually need a high temperature to live in and the weather in Minnesota would be deadly. Their are breeders though that have domesticated hedgehogs in Minnesota.
Take a toothbrush and rub the spots that need cleaning with a non scented tearless hedgehog shampoo. Then rinse lightly.
If you have a large sink in your kitchen, fill it about a an inch with water (just enough so it isn't blocking the animal's mouth and nose). Gently pour lukewarm water over the hedgehog, taking caution not to get it in the face. If your hedgie is really dirty, you can use mild kitten shampoo and gently rub it in with a toothbrush. Rise your hedgie, making sure all shampoo (if you used any) is gone. GENTLY scub the quills with a toothbrush to get all those places that parasites can hide.
When you take your hedgie out of the bath, make sure his/her feet and paws are clean, there is no shampoo resdue, and that there is no water at all on the face. IMPORTANT: Before you put your hedgie back into it's cage, be certain it is dry. Hedgies get ill very fast when wet. Wrap your hedgie in a towel (make sure it can breath!) and pat it dry. You can also put your hairdrier on low (hold it at least a foot away, and direct the air away from the face) to spped up the process.
This would be a good time to trim the hedgie's nails if in need of it. Also, before you put your hedgie in it's cage, make sure the nose is OK. Sometimes their noses run if they get a little water in them. pat the nose with a tissue when this happens, and check back every 1/2 or so to make sure it doesn't run more than twice.
