I wouldn't use commercial food it has preservatives in it that can be harmful to your hermies. they are scavengers and you can give them a little piece of fruit, vegetables, and sometimes sea food like shrimp.

But you HAVE TO change the food daily or nightly, or mites will start to infest your crabitiat

NO! Hermit crabs can't eat food coloring. the chemicals in it could kill them.

Your hermit crab cam go fast depending on the whieght of the shell on the hermit crab. If the shell is light the speed of the crab will increase, if the shell is heavy on the crab the speed will decrease.

You get distilled or spring water and mist the cage LIGHTLY and mist the hermit crab LIGHTLY make sure your hermit crab is never dripping wet when you mist it.

If your hermit crab will come far enough out of it's shell, you can see under its legs, if there's 2 small dots, your crab is a female, if there isn't then its a male. Hope this helps! :)

The best thing is to not touch it! You need to cut off that part of the tank with a sturdy peice of cardboard, so no other hermies can get it. Then make sure both sides has food and water. Sea salt water also for the molting hermie! Make sure it has a dark place to molt also like a coconut.hut. Leave it alone!

If its not dug under ground to molt that means either you dont have enough substrate or you have something like tiny shells. Tiny shells arent substrate! They get hurt if they try to dig. They need coconut husk fiber or sand. It has to be deeper than your biggest hermie. Good luck!

Your Hermit Crab is not naked it is just molting into a different shell,mostly a bigger one.So don't be suprised if he/she is "naked".

No they don'et. First of, they drown in water. If thety get wet, and it is time for molting, they sometimes do. Other times they molt when they'ree as dry as a stone.

Hermit crabs in captivity cannot mate. Unless you live on a tropical island with wild hermit crabs, there's no need to worry. They were probably just playing.

In the wild, they are scavengers and eat dead fish, seaweed, and fruit. In captivity, sadly, they are fed commercial hermit crab diets which contain copper sulfate and causes early death. The best foods to feed captive hermit crabs are those as close to their wild diet as possible.

A favorite food of one of my hermies is apple, and I give him a slice of apple probably once a week.

My hermit crabs are fed shrimp and lean meats microwaved for 30 seconds, coconut flakes, banana, apple, oats, bell pepper, and egg as staple foods.

If you do not have time to cut up bits of food daily, another option is making your own powdered hermit crab diet as I have just recently begun to do. Just make sure you don't give them that every day, and alternate between recipes. Here is a recipe that I made up for mine:

Staple Powdered Food: (just add de-chlorinated water and serve!)

Ingredients:

•Dried shrimp or crayfish (without salt)

•Dried seaweed (without salt or sugar)

•Oats

•Aquarium Salt (NOT table salt)

•Calcium powder (made for reptiles and found in a Pet Store)

Put equal parts shrimp and seaweed in a blender with a handful of oats, a tablespoon of Aquarium salt, and a tablespoon of calcium powder. Blend them into a thick powder. To serve, put two tablespoons of the powder you have made in the crab's bowl, and add three tablespoons of de-chlorinated water.

Hermit crabs can live for some time without water however it is not recommended and the more time that they are without water the more suceptible they are to disease and death. i have seen crabs live for over a month without water but most do not survive long after that, even when the are moved to ideal surroundings.
