as the king of the river/ swamp etc al. the hippo is slightly stronger
but if your talking about hunting then the crocs are definitely stronger
Female Hippos attain sexual maturity at around 6 years of age. Males reach sexual maturity at around 7.5 years of age. However, males don't get to mate until they are much larger and older. Hippos have a gestation period of around 8 months after which a single hippo calf is born. Baby hippos are born under water and weigh around 25 to 45 kilograms in weight (60 to 110 pounds). They are around 125 cms (50 inches) in length at birth.
The hippos mouth is 4 feet (1.2m) and its teeth are big too. See: Hippopotamus - The Hippo's Teeth And Its Diet for more information.
Hippopotamuses live in herds of 20 to 30. They are not aggressive, but are dangerous fighters if frightened or attacked.
Given their size, one might say hippos can't float because hippos seem too heavy to swim. One would be wrong. The hippo's fat makes it buoyant so it can float very well. On the other hand Hippos do not really swim. Their method of travel is very simple: they walk, or bound, if underwater.
In greek history, they called hippos water horse's because they thought hippos looked like a horse very well, but the hippos spent a lot of time in the water so they called them water horse's. But then, most of the people in the world changed it to hippopotamus.
Hippo mouths are big so they can fight with each other to see who will be the leader (or dominant male I think) or just defence. The mouth does not serve any purpose in eating because all they eat is grass.
They are very aggressive and extremely dangerous especially if you get between them and water
No. They are very territorial and VERY dangerous but not poisonous.
Both actually. Hippos spend most of the day in water. It helps them control body temperature, protect them against predators, biting insects and sunburn, and take some weight off their feet and legs. But they don't eat much in water, and generally go on land during night to graze.
they like eating leaves, fallen fruit, aquatic and reed plants, low lying plants, and soft grasses
Hippopotamus (hippopotamus amphibius) or hippo have 40 teeth. They have a pair of huge incisors (up to 18 inches long), curved lower canine teeth (ivory, grow up to 3 feet), and flat molars used for grinding up vegetation. Their teeth are used to defend their spot in the water hole in which they spend most of their day, in which they are very territorial.
They have a good shelter under the swampy waters or mud and not be seen
not at all because the hippos jaws can open up to 190degrees but the lions can only open up to 120degrees
they need the red secretion that seeps from their skin so they are protected from uv and battle sores. They need water because all hippos eithe rlive in bogs or rivers. they also need weed and small fish that they eat.
