How much would a horse bridle cost?

The cost of a bridle can vary. I have a nice one that I bought for $35. They range in price - some can be hundreds of dollars depending on the designer and leather quality. It depends on what you want to spend.

I prefer to get a good quality one, which might cost more because it has better leather and will last forever. It depends on what you are using it for, too. If trail riding is your thing than you won't need an expensive one, But if you do showing and or pony club you might as well spend the money.

Who invented the harness for horses?

It appears that the harness was invented in Asia.

In the late feudal period (4th Century BC) there is pictorial evidence (from the Chinese state of Chu) of a horse with a wooden chest yoke. By the late Han Dynasty the yoke was made from softer straps and was used throughout the country. By the 5Th century, the horse collar (pictured above), which allows the horse to push with its shoulders, was developed. This critical invention was introduced into Europe approximately by 970 and became widespread within 200 years. Because of the greater speed of horses over oxen, as well as greater endurance, agricultural output throughout Europe increased significantly.

What does a horse's bridle look like?

A 'Bridle' is what goes on the horse's head, what you steer their head with. Most of the time bridles are leather but they can also be nylon and any material that halters are made out of as well.

There are a bunch of different types of bridles depending on what style of riding you do (such as Dressage, Western, Reining, general English, Hacks, and so on). See the Related Links section below for some images on bridles, complete with labels, to help make more sense out of them.

What piece of tack keeps the saddle from slipping back?

the girth mainly stops it because if it is tight enough the saddle can not move forward because the front legs are there. if your horse is gentle enough use a back cinch (back girth) and this will help too, just don't tighten it as tight as the front cinch

How do you get a horse to open it's mouth for the bit?

to get your horse to take the bit, put your fingers in its mouth behind its teeth. you could also try giving it a treat then slipping the bit in. if it is winter, you may want to warm the bit in your hands first, as horses do not like taking a cold bit. hold the crownpiece, or headstall, of the bridle, and press your free hand against the bit. Stick your thumb through the ring of the bit and into the horse's mouth (behind the teeth). push up on the upper gum a little and slide the bit in, pulling up on the crownpiece. slip the crownpiece over the ears and- ta-da!

How often must a saddle and bridle be cleaned?

If you want your saddle to last for a long time then you will need to strip clean it every time after you ride, but really you don't need to clean it more then once a week unless it gets dirty. The most important thing is to oil it every week that's whats going to keep your saddle supple and nice.

so basically every day.

What type off saddles do the royal Canadian mounted police use?

Stubben saddles originating in Germany. John Stubben came over from Germany and agreed to modify his saddle cut. This produced a more versatile saddle as they could not afford both a jumping and dressage saddle. Stubben named the first ones "Kanada Model". They have long skirts/flaps, fit the majority of their horses and help place the rider's leg where it is functional. The RCMP still employs a saddler who keeps the saddlery and leather equipment in good repair, and also, with the exception of the basic saddle, makes all the leather equipment.

What is a halter used for?

Well when the horse was a baby you should have kept a halter on a few days after he was born to get used to it. If you did not do that than you can get a halter and put it on loose so that it is not hurting him/her but tight enough so they cant rip it off. when the horse gets used to that then you can clip a lead rope to his halter and ask for a walk and it will take time but if the horse is still a baby it will take less time then a matured horse

What does an average horse bit weigh?

well it completely depends, some people say that a thicker heavier bit is better as it spreads the weight and pressure in the horses mouth. but this totally depends on 2 things, the ability of the rider and their skills and stregths or weaknessess but also the size of a horses mouth... this rule may well apply with a heavy cob or even section D, but with a horse with a smaller finer mouth (like my dutch warmblood) then putting a larger bit than the small one i have in could hurt and cause problems with her mouth in the near future causing to much pressure on their already fragile soft mouths.

Can you use a grackle bridle in dressage competitions?

Yes, it is legal to use a grackle noseband (also known as a figure eight) in dressage. However, it is more common to see flash nosebands.

What is the difference between a fancy snaffle bridle and a plain snaffle bridle?

The subject of bits is so extensive you could never learn all the bits and their uses. A plain bit used for young horses usually has a thicker mouthpiece (thicker is gentler on the young horse's mouth) with no shanks. An eggbutt, o-ring, or broken Dee are good 'easy' bits. These bits, as in all bits, are made of different materials, copper being one of the best for the horse's mouth.

Bits with shanks, or bits used on double bridles, can be fancy and can be expensive. They can be made of steriling silver, silver plate, copper, sweetiron and stainless steel are just a few. Fancy or no, what is important is the mouth piece, shanks and chin strap. These decide how soft or harsh the bit will be on your horse's mouth.

With any bit, always strive for the least amount of bit to get the most result from your horse. So go as soft as you can to get the results you need.

Disconnecting a saddle valve?

Saddle valves are leak prone depending on the age and the installation. If your valve is leaking sometimes tightening will solve the problem. If you must have a new one and the old one is not leaking... I would suggest just to leave the old one and install a new one near the old one as disconnecting, cleaning (the pipe) and assuring that your aim is good in aligning the new valve to use the existing perforation of the old valve is difficult, and requires turning off the water supply. Installing a new saddle valve is quite simpler and the water may remain on.

What is the difference between a hunt saddle and an English saddle?

Well any type of saddle can be treeless. Typically a english saddle will be made with a spring tree to offer support and comfort. Treeless saddles can be tricky to fit sometimes, but then so can any saddle in general.
