Johnny Unitas. John Constantine "Johnny" Unitas (May 7, 1933 - September 11, 2002), nicknamed The Golden Arm and often called Johnny U, was a professional American football player in the 1950s through the 1970s, spending the majority of his career with the Baltimore Colts.

Besides a few bold moves by the Saints (such as the 2 point convertion in the 4th quarter, ot the initial kick at the beginning of the 3rd), the interception in the fourth quarter secured the Saints a 14 point lead, which made it nearly impossible for the Colts to tie the game, even if they had been able to make the touch-down in the final minute of the game. It is also worth noting the precition of the kicker, Garrett Hartley, being able to score 3 field goals over 40 yards and, of course, Drew Brees' accuracy in pass completions.

When the AFL-NFL merger took place in 1970, there were 16 teams in the NFL and 10 teams in the AFL. To make the number of teams even in the newly created conferences, three teams from the old NFL (new NFC) moved over to play in the AFC. These teams were the Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

When the NFL Colts were formed in Baltimore in 1953, they took the name of an earlier, defunct team that had played in the All-American Football Conference (AAFC) in 1947-49. That team's name came from a naming contest.
