Steve Russell invented Spacewar as a computer game in the early 1960s to showcase the capabilities of the PDP-1 computer and to explore the interactive potential of computers. It was also created as a fun and engaging way for programmers to experiment with coding and technology.

The kaleidoscope was invented by Sir David Brewster in 1816. Brewster was a Scottish physicist and inventor who was inspired to create the kaleidoscope after experimenting with light and patterns through a triangular prism.

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek created a simple microscope with a single lens, known as a single-lens or simple microscope. This type of microscope was groundbreaking for its time and allowed Leeuwenhoek to observe and describe various microorganisms for the first time.

Before sunglasses were invented, people used various methods to keep the sun out of their eyes, such as wearing wide-brimmed hats, using visors or shields made of materials like leather or straw, or simply squinting to reduce the brightness. These methods helped protect their eyes from harsh sunlight and glare.

The term "Space Ships" implies a vehicle capable of interplanetary travel carrying a crew. So far we haven't been able to do that.

We have only reached the point of being able to send unmanned vehicles on one way trips in our solar system. The Apollo capsules never reached interplanetary travel and could not make a round trip under power.

If Sputnik is considered the first space ship, then that country is Russia. It depends on how the term space ship is defined.

Stories of early rocket devices appear through historical records from different cultures. Maybe the first rockets were accidents. In the first century AD the Chinese were said to have had a simple form of gunpowder made from saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal dust. To create explosions during religious festivals, they filled bamboo tubes with a special mixture and tossed them into fires. If both ends of the tube weren't sealed, the escaping gas from the explosion would shoot out the open end, sending the tube in the opposite direction. So the first rockets were probably poorly built fireworks!

The Chinese then started to experiment with these gunpowder filled tubes open at one end. At some point they attached bamboo tubes to arrows and launched them with bows. In time they discovered that the gunpowder filled tubes could launch themselves using just the power of the escaping gas. The true rocket was born.

The sistrum was invented by the ancient Egyptians. It was used in religious ceremonies and rituals, typically associated with the worship of the goddess Hathor. The sistrum consists of a metal frame with metal rods that produce a jingling sound when shaken.

Tinderboxes were used to ignite a spark with a flint stone and steel needle, letting the spark fall in the tinder box in which burned cotton cloth was laid. Once the spark 'caught' a flame cold be produced by bowing gently on the glowing cloth and candles lit from that.

Cats eyes, also known as road studs or reflective road markers, were invented in the 1930s by Percy Shaw, a British inventor. Shaw came up with the idea after being inspired by the reflection of his car headlights in a cat's eyes on a dark road.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was developed by the United States Department of Defense. It was initially created for military purposes, but has since been made available for civilian use.

The ancient Egyptians are credited with the invention of the concept of dividing the day into 24 hours. This system was refined by the Greeks and later by the Romans. Today, the 24-hour time system is used worldwide for standardization and accuracy in timekeeping.
