What is the highest IQ ever recored?

The highest IQ ever estimated was the 300 IQ of William James Sidis. The highest IQ of a person alive today and recordedis the 228 IQ of Marilyn vos Savant. Both of these IQs were ratio IQs, meaning they were calculated by figuring out the person's "mental age" based on how many questions they answered and then using the formula Mental age/chronological age * 100. IQs are no longer calculated this way.

When someone is 12 and you have an IQ of 167 is this good?

If you took the IQ test online, the result may not be accurate. It is recommended that you take an IQ test either at school or otherwise given by a professional. But yes, if you took the IQ test given by a professional, 167 is an excellent score. But age has nothing to do with IQ test scores. IQ tests are designed so that you would have the same score no matter what your age is.

167 is not just an excellent score. It's extremely high.

What does it mean if you get 117 in a IQ test?

Having an IQ of 117 places your intelligence in the High Average range. Average is 90 to 109 and most people fall within that range (68%). An IQ score of 117 is approximately at the 87th percentile which means, when compared with other people your age, your intelligence would surpass 87 out of 100 people. However, with any IQ test, there are sub-scores within which better indicate your learning profile, your individual strengths and weaknesses.

Is 141 a good IQ score?

Yes, technically above 140 is 'very gifted' and starts to tip into the 'genius' category. HOWEVER, it really depends on where/how you took the test. If you took an official MENSA test, then it's more likely to be accurate than some random internet 5 question quiz for example.

The way real IQ tests are supposed to work is that it takes the average test score across many people and then sets whatever the average grade is on the test to 100. So make sure your test is current.

Why is above 140 considered dipping into the genius category? Well because 140 is the second standard deviation from the mean (100) so essentially your IQ score measures how far above or below the average human score you got.

However, 140 is arbitrary, in a manner of speaking. I have, so far as I've tested, an IQ of 141 as well (which is why I chose to answer this question) but I really don't think anyone would ever truly call me a genius in the traditional sense.

There is also some controversy about how the test is biased in some ways. You'd naturally get a better score on the test if you simply read faster, for example. IQ, in other words in not the end-all be-all of intelligence measurement. There is always more to intelligence than just that score. Take it with a grain of salt.

How do you raise your IQ?

The best way to raise your IQ is to remove a part in the brain. If you are confused through this statement let me explain. In the brain there is an unecessary section where it interferes with the brain. If getting rid of this your IQ will boost and the way you solve questions and write essays will change. Your IQ will boost 30 more points. The secret to Albert Einstein was by one day knocking his head on the wall when he was at around 20. IQ of a genius?

It is not the numerical value (for example, 140) of the IQ test that matters, but rather the percentile (usually above the 98th) and the standard deviation (usually two standard deviations) that indicates potentially superior intelligence. The numerical score on one IQ test does not even have the same meaning as the same numerical score on a different type of IQ test. For example. An IQ score of 140 the Cattell Culture Fair IQ test is only equal to a score of 125 on the Wechsler (both are very strong scores).

The consensus in the field of psychology is that a score of two standard deviations above the norm (roughly higher than 95 to 98 percent of the population) is an indication of very superior intelligence. Sometimes the word "gifted" is used. Scoring significantly higher than two standard deviations above the norm is basically meaningless. To accurately measure intelligence beyond two standard deviations above the norm requires a deeper analysis by an expert in the field of psychology specializing in psychometric analysis.

Again, whether or not someone is actually a "genius" requires a more careful psychometric study of an individual's intellectual strength (mathematical, spatial, linguistic, pattern-solving, etc.). Though the belief is often held by lay persons and children that IQ tests are "genius detectors", no IQ test can honestly indicate if someone is actually a genius. Scoring the same on an IQ test as Stephen Hawking does not make you as smart as Stephen Hawking.

IQ tests are not without limitations. Unfortunately, in some instances high IQ scores are actually more of an indication of a person's familiarity with IQ tests and not the individual's real intelligence level. IQ tests are also academically loaded to some degree, resulting in persons with less access to academic resources during their lives having artificially lower scores than persons with greater access. An individual's score may also vary (usually by about ten points) depending on diet, stress, level of sleep, etc.

-------

The IQ of a genius is 140 and up. If you are in 140 or 150s, you are kind of and almost a genius. If you are higher, YOU ARE A GENIUS! (This statement is not correct. See the explanation above.)
