hi, i can help u with ur 583. i have had many and know of the many problems which are all very simple to fix. first tell me if u still have it. the problem with the fireing is that tha firing pin doesnt "fly" very far and todays shells primers are a bit harder then the shells of the old days. these guns are from the 50s so there alot of age. the mechanize can be modifyd but it is quit involve to speak. not difficult but u do need to know what ur doing. however if u wish not to sell it email me and i may buy it. i love thes old shotys.donnyp69@gmaildotcom email me direct for the full description on how to fix the firing pin problem.

This is a model 11 bolt-action shotgun.

I received my first shotgun in 1960, a j.c. Higgins bolt action single shot .410, new. To remove the bolt, open it, then press a sharp-pointed object into the hole in the bottom of the receiver and press down; the bolt will slide out. Used it for years with no malfunctgions.......oh, it automatically resets the safety when the bolt is opened, a good safety feature for young or new shooters.
