James Monroe

James Monroe, along with Secretary of State John Quincy Adams, traveled to Europe in the hopes of mending fences with England. He believed that in order to have a good relationship with other countries, the United States had to extend the first hand of friendship.

James Monroe was the fifth president of the United States of America (1817-1825).

- Fought valiantly in the revolutionary war and was badly wounded

- He helped make the Constitution

- He acquired Florida from Spain (Adams-Otis Tready of 1819)

- Resolved border disputes with Britain from The War of 1812 (Rush-Bagot Tready of 1817)
