J. K. Rowling (born 1965), the British author of 'Harry Potter' series

Well, I think her last name's Rowling. But I'm not 100% sure. It might also be Smith. Or Graham. Or Happydungryson. One of them.

2. She went from living on welfare to becoming a multi-millionaire in five years.

3. She is ranked as the 12th richest woman in Britian.

4. Her favorite musical group is The Smiths.

5. Her idea for Harry Potter fully formed while on a delayed train trip in 1990.

6. The idea of the Dementors in the Harry Potter series came from her illness of clinical depression.

7. She was born on 31 July 1965.

8. She is married to Neil Michael Murray.

9. She has stated in an interview that her hero is Robert F. Kennedy

10. She was teaching English in Portugal when she met her first husband Jorge Arantes.

11. Paul wants to marry her.

12. she has three children, two girls and one boy

13. her first book (Harry Potter and the Socerrer's Stone or how ever you spell it) was published and improved in 1998

Well, it is amazing but J.K. (Joanne Kathleen) Rowling was actually quite poor before she wrote the Harry Potter and became extremely rich. She wrote Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in a cafe, which had heating that her apartment lacked, and was rejected by many publishers before beginning one of the most popular series ever. She actually thought of Harry Potter on a train, apparently the characters 'just walked into her head' By the time she arrived at Kings Cross Station, she was thinking a lot about the idea.

In my opinion J.K. Rowling has written the best series I have ever read. If you haven't read them I would highly suggest you do!

She and Harry Potter share the same birthday: July 31st. Interesting, right?

Is J.K. Rowling an atheist?

No, J.K. Rowling is a member of the Church of Scotland. However, she stated on an episode of the Today Show that her books, particularly her seventh, did come into conflict with her beliefs and caused her some consternation.

As I recall, she was concerned with openly discussing her faith because it would have made the plot more obvious (book seven can be seen as a Christian allegory) not because the book was in "conflict" with her beliefs - she has always made it clear that the books are fantasy and she doesn't believe in magic - she doesn't believe the books are true.

Jobs & Education
J.K. Rowling

What was Joanne Rowling's education?

Actually, her real name is Joanne Murray. She wrote under the pseudonym J.K because her publisher thought that the target audience (young boys) would be reluctant to read a book written by a woman. She legally has no middle name so she adopted the K. (for Kathleen) from her paternal grandmother.

Her parents to wanted her to become a secretary so she attended the University of Exeter beginning at age 18 (1983) and studied French. As part of her French program, she lived in Paris for a year. After college, she stayed in London and worked at several jobs, including at Amnesty International.

Most of The Sorcerer's Stone was written in cafes on napkins!
