Was johnny cash a felon?

Johnny got into trouble with the law on several occasions, he was charged with smuggling after trying to sneak amphetamines into the US after a trip to Mexico, he also accidentally destroyed 508 acres of the Los Padres National Forest in California, killing 49 of its 53 protected condors when an overheated wheel bearing set fire to some foliage. When asked why he did this he replied "I didn't do it, my truck did, and it's dead, so you can't question it." He was also arrested on trespassing charges when he decided to pick some flowers from private property. So, arguably he was a felon, however he never served a considerable amount of time in prison contrary to what was believed at the time (due to his songs)
