Hi,
took me a while to work this one out!
Go to "www.YOURWEBSITENAME/administrator/includes/toolbar.php" and edit the file on line 138, taking out Help.
To avoid confusion - because there is apostrophes, speech marks etc - the line should now read:-
$bar->appendButton( '', $ref, $com );
( where the " is actually two times ' )
Still abit confusing!

In Joomla 1.0.x, login in the admin area, click on Modules -> Site Modules
When the list shows up, select Type: mod_login
Click on the publish/unpublish button
You can also go to Site -> Global Configuration
On the Site tab, change Front-end Login to No and save the configuration.
In Joomla 1.5.9
Extensions -> Module Manager
For - Select Type - choose mod_login
Select the module and click on Disable at the top right
You can also go to Site -> Global Configuration
Click on System
Under User Settings set "Allow User Registration" to No and save the configuration.
