It depends on the style of karate and the dojo you do it in, know the style I do (Zanshin Shotokan) kids and adults are ranked the same, there are a few adults on the same belt as me and we are ranked the same, some people think karate is harder for children, and in a way it is but if you are dedicadited you will have no problems, I never had problems myself although loads of other kids do, there are different types of karate like I said so I can only say what its like at my club

You better, or you will be asked to leave the dojo! Yes, you can certainly wash a gi. Here are some things to help: Be careful of using bleach, it can wipe out the colors in patches. A colorfast bleach is safer. Turn the gi inside out when washing. Over time, the creases will wear through from washing if you don't. More important on heavy weight gi then a lightweight kid's gi. Pretreat any stains such as blood or sweat stains with a good spot detergent. Drying in the dryer can cause some shrinkage. Take it to a damp dry, and then hang to dry. The responsibility of taking care of the uniform is a part of learning to be a martial artist.

Typically stripes on kyu belts indicate an intermediate step between two belts of solid color.

There are many related martial arts. Karate is derived from Kung Fu, making it more of a child then a cousin. Karate has a number of related arts, including kobudo, judo, aikido and many of the Japanese martial arts.

it's a matter of choice. personally, i like to wear a shirt underneath my gi, just so the sweat doesnt show as much. but at my dojo, there are some that wear shirts, some that dont.

Both Karate and Taekwondo are suitable for warfare, and the question of one being "better" is ALWAYS a matter of opinion. While modern warfare relies heavily upon long range weapons such as firearms, artillery, explosive devices and missiles, a soldier never knows when they might come face to face with an enemy combatant. In addition to fighting, and survival skills, the modern soldier benefits greatly from good physical condition. The martial art training also provides additional positive character traits such as discipline, self control, perseverance, and extraordinary mental focus. In this regard, both karate and taekwondo (and many other Martial Art systems) would serve well. The more important factors would be the quality of instructor available to the solider, and the dedication of the student to train for optimum performance.

I know many that could beat me. Depends on the woman.

It usually represents a rank. i.e. White with a stripe (either a new belt with a stripe in the middle, or sometimes just black tape at the ends) it a higher rank than just a white belt. Yellow is higher than white w/ stripe, but yellow w/ stripe is higher than yellow. In some styles that use tape stripes rather that a new belt with new colors, there may be multiple stripes before a new belt is given.

The one exception to this is that in some styles, on the color before black (usually brown or red) there may be a stripe that stands for a title, rather than a rank (though the title still makes gives the person higher authority over others who don't have the title). In the style I trained in, for example, the brown belt had 4 stripes. The fourth represented the title "kari-shodan," which loosely translates to probationary 1st degree black belt.

For the style I trained in, the ranking though black belt went as follows:

White (10th "kyu")

White w/ stripe (9th "kyu")

Yellow (8th "kyu")

Yellow w/ stripe (7th)

Green (6th)

Green w/ stripe (5th)

Power. The source of power in most strikes and kicks is from the ground and a correct and strong stance is a major part of allowing that to be transmitted into the technique.
