What magical stories were told about king Arthur?
King Arthur is the central figure in the mythology of Great Britain. He figures prominently in the cycle of legends known as The Matter of Britain. Historians disagree on whether anyone like him ever really existed. It seems safe to say that it hardly matters. His myth is just as strong with or without a historical personage to go along with it. His is one of the stories that lays the foundation of Western culture and provides a template for the culture's ideas of honor, leadership, conduct of war, romance, religion, and death.
Arthur first appears in Welsh poetry around 600 AD. In several Welsh history texts Arthur is referred to as a great military leader.
In 1138, Geoffrey of Monmouth popularized the legend of King Arthur in his fictional work, Historia Regum Britanniae. It is believed that the Norman conquest of Britain in 1066 stimulated interest in the obscure legend of Arthur. The Normans found common interest with the Welsh in legends that portrayed a great military hero triumphing over their common enemy, the Saxons.
Sir Thomas Malory wrote a version of the legends called Le Morte d' Arthur in 1485 which is considered the first modern telling of the stories. He gathered the stories from sources throughout Europe and created such a definitive work of literature that it is the direct source for most adaptations of the stories all the way to the present day.
We offer here a version of the legends called The Story of King Arthur and his Knights. It was written and illustrated by Howard Pyle. He was a great American writer/illustrator who wrote several wonderful books about King Arthur and other books about pirates and Robin Hood. His illustrations are considered some of the best ever made and were in great demand during his lifetime. The Story of King Arthur and his Knights was published in 1903.
Guinevere
That, m'dear, would be Queen Guenever. Her name is subject to many different spellings, mind you, but I'm pretty sure it's pronounced Gwen-e-veer. No, I don't understand how that pronunciation came about either.
Guinevere was the queen of the legendary Camelot. King Arthur's chief rival in her love was the irascible and very brave Lancelot.
How old was Merlin when he died?
That is an interesting question, for which I have no straight answer. Here is what I have to say: Supposedly, Merlin lived backward in time. From his point-of-view, he died, lived, and was born. This is how he was able to see the future. Personally, I think this is a half-baked idea. If someone were to live backward in time, they would appear to be completely insane. Even if they were to figure out some means of communicating with someone who lived forwards in time, they would be completely unable to hold a conversation. Merlin would never remember anything that happened in the past, and would never remember what someone else said to him one second ago.
Back on topic: From his perspective, Merlin was precisely zero years old when he ceased to live.
In the premise that one lives forward in time it is conceivable that one recalls from the past. However, if one lives from the future to the past it would be expected that the opposite rule would also prevail. The person would already know before the question is asked so there would be no forgeting in the equation. Melin was atleast 160 y/o if he lived in 420 and 580 (A.D.) In order to answer questions pertaining to a wizard living in such a way one must be able to think in such a way.
Why didn't prince Arthur become king?
Arthur never became king because he died before the throne was avalible.
How many knights of the round table were there?
Generally there are 9 major ones, but in reality we don't know. A total of 32 existed that we know of. But one was King Arthur, 5 were other kings, and one was Mordred (another was also the butler... bet you heard that quote before lol). But also remember there are numerous different legends you can go by (some were Lancelot-Grail, Post-Vulgate, and my favorite, La Morte Arthur). There may be more knights not listed, but we're never know.

Where was the excalibur thrown when king Arthur died?
excalibur was not thrown in the lake with the lady nor was it drawn there by king arthur. it was made in a mysic forge, the same place where lady guinevere betrayed arthur with lancelot. and, that is where it was thrown, back to where it came but if it needed to be drawn again it can be drawn anywhere, like the stone begonoth or anywhere. you just need to have a heart full of love and courage.and, you need to believe.

What are facts about King Arthur?
King Arthur is not true. he is indeed a legend. The stories we know and love are fiction. there might be a person that the real king arthur is based uponor even a number of heros are based on him and his personality. But there was no king in the middle ages called King Arthur.. King arthur is son of King uther pendragon and lady Igraine. Morgan Le Fay was one of king Arthur's half sisters, he married Queen Guinevere, and in many stories he diesd in his last battle.
If Arthur actually lived, it was probably in the 5th or 6th century.
The literary character is a different creature. There were oral traditions about Arthur--stories circulating and being told by story-tellers around the fireside before people started writing them down. The first written mention of Arthur is in 6th century poem. The literature we're most familiar with now first began with Geoffrey of Monmouth and has been expanded upon ever since.

What were the oaths of knighthood of King Arthur?
This depends on which story you are reading.
Both the Vulgate Merlin and the Post-Vulgate Merlin describe oaths made by knights after Arthur marries Guenevere.
The Vulgate Merlin account can be read in the original medieval French with marginal notes in English in Oskar Sommer's edition at http://www.archive.org/details/arthurian02sommuoft . The best way to read this is to download the text in the DjVu version. Then use DjVu to read it (see http://djvu.org/). Go to page 320.
An archaic English translation is found on the web at http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=cme;cc=cme;rgn=div1;view=text;idno=Merlin;node=Merlin%3A26, page 481.
The Post-Vulgate Merlin is found in the original medieval French at http://books.google.com/books?id=adcWAAAAYAAJ . There, in his first quest, at Queen Guenevere's marriage feast, Sir Gawain accidently kills a woman, and refuses to grant a knight mercy in battle. Upon his return to court, a penance is placed on him to henceforth always serve maidens and to always grant mercy. King Pellinor also enters on a quest, and in his eagerness, he ignores a cry for aid from a damsel who is with a badly wounded knight. As a result the wounded knight and damsel are both devoured by wild animals. Merlin later tells King Arthur, after asking him to keep it secret, that the damsel was King Pellinor's daughter.
A modern English translation of a Spanish version of this is available at http://members.terracom.net/~dorothea/baladro/index.html, chapters 30-34.
Sir Thomas Malory uses this account in his Le Morte d'Arthur. But, perhaps more impressed by Gawain's and Pellinor's misdeeds, including Pellinor's rape of a maiden on whom his illegitimate son Tor is begotten, and perhaps recalling somewhat of the supposed rules of Arthur's court in other romances, adds a passage in which Arthur imposes oaths on his knights. See http://etext.virginia.edu/etcbin/toccer-new2?id=Mal1Mor.sgm&images=images/modeng&data=/texts/english/modeng/parsed&tag=public&part=61&division=div2 .
"Thus, when the quest was done of the white hart, the which followed Sir Gawaine; and the quest of the brachet, followed of Sir Tor, Pellinore's son; and the quest of the lady that the knight took away, the which King Pellinore at that time followed; then the king stablished all his knights, and them that were of lands not rich he gave them lands, and charged them never to do outrageousity nor murder, and always to flee treason; also, by no means to be cruel, but to give mercy unto him that asketh mercy, upon pain of forfeiture of their worship and lordship of King Arthur for evermore; and always to do ladies, damosels, and gentlewomen succour, upon pain of death. Also, that no man take no battles in a wrongful quarrel for no law, nor for no world's goods. Unto this were all the knights sworn of the Table Round, both old and young. And every year were they sworn at the high feast of Pentecost."
