How are diagnoses of TT leprosy made?
In cases of TT leprosy, a diagnosis is made based on the clinical signs and symptoms, the type and distribution of skin lesions, and history of having lived in an endemic area.
Do leprosy still exist until now?
Leprosy or Hansen's disease is a chronic disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis. Whether and where leprosy existed in ancient times is difficult to determine. There is no direct evidence that the Children of Israel, when in the land of Goshen, suffered from leprosy, but it is of interest to note an article by Yeoli which tells of the finding of a clay jar in a section of the Amenophis III temple. On this jar is depicted a face which is very similar to that of a sufferer from lepromatous leprosy, and, for comparison, alongside the photograph of the jar have been placed two pictures showing advanced nodular leprosy as seen today. In January 2002, the World Health Organization announced leprosy no longer constituted a global public health problem. The difference is that now leprosy is curable.
Answer
Leprosy was a disease that caused people to become outcasts in ancient and historical times. Not knowing the cause, it was variously believed to be a hereditary disease, a curse, or a punishment from God. Leper colonies, including one in Hawaii, have been common place. In current times, the disease is more understood Nerve damage, disfigurement and disability are managed by current drugs and a vaccine is being sought.
The bacteria Microbacterum leprae causes leprosy also called Hansen's Disease.
A person cannot contract Hansen's Disease unless he or she is genetically susceptible to the infection. More than 90% of the human population is naturally resistant to this infection.
For those who are susceptible to infection; it is believed they acquired the disease by inhaling infected respiratory droplets spread from another infected person.
While this may be one way in which leprosy is spread, more than 50 percent of the people who develop leprosy have no confirmed contact with another infected person.
i think it spreads from touch or maybe through the air. because in the bible it talks about lepers and they cant be near anyone (except othe lepers)
Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, is considered a chronic infectious disease. It is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae and primarily affects the skin, nerves, and mucous membranes. The symptoms can develop slowly over time, often taking years to manifest, which is characteristic of chronic conditions.
Leprosy is hidden in airborne droplets that can spread when someone sneezes or coughs. It's a disease that damages the mucous membranes, skin and peripheral nerves.
Which is worse lupus or leprosy?
Probably leprosy. I mean, I think Lupus is a kind of cancer. Leprosy on the other hand,
I've seen pics of people with this disease and it's just absolutely horrific.
What is the derivation of 'leprosy'?
The term for the medical condition 'leprosy' is derived from Greek by way of Latin. The word in Latin is the noun 'lepra'. The word was borrowed from the same word in Greek 'lepra'. The Greek noun in turn was derived from the verb 'lepein', which means 'to peel'.
What are the three ways leprosy is a sin?
ummm consitering it's a infectious disease and you cant control if you get it or not, im thinking its NOT a sin.
Are leprosy cases on the increase or decrease worldwide?
lower, we actually found a cure some 100 years ago
It could be anything , only the dermatologist and possibly after some tests can decide for sure.
Can you catch leprosy from touching a handrail after a leper. Is this seriously medically possible?
My understanding of lepers is very poor but it can be safe to assume that if they leave a piece of their flesh/bacteria on the handrail then it can (in some cases) re-animate and potentially infect someone who might touch it.
It appears to me that lepers span the divide between humans and the undead as they are still partly alive but are carrying dead flesh. There is a concern amongst many learned people that they may one day cross over. Of course this would take humid conditions so highly likely in a place like Hong Kong.
