If you already have an Airport Extreme Base Station and your Express is used simply to either extend your network range or to use the AirTunes function, then yes you may plug directly to the Express to connect to the internet although the purpose of the Express is to be able to access the internet wirelessly. However, if you do not have an Airport Extreme Base Station and are using only the Express to connect to the internet, then you may not connect to the internet by using an Ethernet cable and plugging into the Express. This is because if you are using the Express to connect the internet, the ethernet plug will need to be plugged into your modem.

There are many way to do this. The easiest, and cheapest is to buy a 1/4 inch plug (guitar cable size) to 1/8 inch plug (headphone size) converter and plug it into the input of the Mac. You can then use Garage Band to get the tone you are after. Also, many companies sell guitar to usb devices paired with guitar modeling software. The key is to ensure that the programs are Mac compatible. An other way is to buy a male-male 1/8 cable and a 1/8 to 1/4 converter (supplied with some headphones) and run a guitar amp into the computor. Be sure to plug the cable into the headphone jack.
