In Mario Party DS it is possible to play a multiplayer game with up to four people, even if only one person has Mario Party DS. The person with Mario Party DS must be the host. Each capsule has its own function for example the Coin Block will give players 10 coins and etc. You can use capsules on yourself at the cost of some coins or set them on a space with no cost. Landing on the space will activate the effects of the capsule so if you set a Mushroom the effects of the Mushroom will take effect. The Mushroom in this example will activate on the next turn where it will give players 2 dice blocks to roll instead of 1.
