Wayne Rogers played Trapper John on the CBS television series, M*A*S*H (1972-83). He left at the end of the 3rd season because he felt the story lines weren't paying the proper respect to his character.

Sadly he pasted December 7, 2011. He was a very nice man.

John Schuck played Captain Walter Koskiusko "The Painless Pole" Waldowski, the dentist in the 1970 film MASH. Schuck was also in McMillan & Wife (Sgt. Charles Enright) and The Munsters Today (Herman Munster).

In Bless You, Hawkeye (9th season, 1980-81), a patient smelling like a wet, burlap sack triggers a long-buried childhood memory for Hawkeye. The memory sets off sneezing fits with no medical explanation. Sidney helps Hawkeye through the ordeal with his usual gentle, perceptive, and clarifying manner. Through an emotional walk down memory lane, Sidney and Hawkeye learn that a cousin revered by Hawkeye pushed Hawkeye into a lake when they were row boating. Hawkeye repressed and reversed the memory. He convinced himself that he fell in the lake where he emerged smelling like a 'wet, burlap sack.' The odor ignited the memory but Hawkeye's psyche dealt with the emotional pain through physical agony.

No. The 4077 was a fictional outfit in the novel MASH by Richard Hooker. His real Name was H. Richard Hornberger,M.D., and he was, in fact, a surgeon during the Korean War. He worked at a REAL MASH Unit: the 8055th, and his books are based upon his experiences as a surgeon there. In fact, many of the plot lines from the show are taken directly from Hooker's experience. There were, also, many army surgeons who wrote in suggesting stories for plot lines that were actually used during the run of the series.

Larry Linville felt he had gone as far as he could go with the character. His contract was up at the end of 5 years, so the timing seemed good for him to pursue other opportunities. Mr. Linville had grown tired of playing the same cartoonish, negative role, and he felt the show was moving on, but his character could not, so he turned down the offer of another two year contract with the show.

He had been playing cribbage with a colonel, and the colonel was in debt to Charles for hundreds of dollars. He sent Charles to the MASH unit, which had immediqate need for another surgeon, and essentially left him there, to get him out of his hair.
