The Mayflower Compact (November 11, 1620) established the framework used to govern the Plymouth Colony. It was signed by the Pilgrims, only some of whom were actual separatist Congregationalists, thereby differing from the Puritans who founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1628.

The Mayflower Compact is important because of its principle, that a government's authority derives from the consent of the governed. The signers of the Compact stated that the authority to make laws in the colony was also based on the fact that the inhabitants consented to be subject to those laws. The Plymouth Colony became the most democratic colony at that time, since every adult male head of household was a shareholder in the company and had the right to vote for governor of the colony. The ideals of the Mayflower Compact can be seen in the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

No because they got denied, since the mayflower gave too many people severe allergies. Since there was no allergy medicines there were some cases where people died or were severely ill to the point of near death.

The Compact was created to assure the half of the ship's passengers who were not Puritans that the government of the colony would be elected, not imposed on them.
