No, you do not take sedatives on top of narcotic pain medicines. Overdosing on sedative medication can make you pass out and stop breathing. Morphine is very habit forming and very dangerous. Follow your doctor's orders carefully. Do not take extra morphine, and do not take other medications on top of morphine unless your doctor specifically tells you to.

I am wondering this myself. I take Melotonin along with Ambien and get drug tested every once in awhile by my doctor because I take Suboxone. I always test positive for Barbituates and my doctor figured it was because of the seizure medication I was taking (dialantin) she trusts me and doesn't give it a second thought(which she should). Seizure meds can cause positives for Barbs but they are mostly in drugs like Phenobarbitol. So it points to the Melotonin.

Well, I was also wondering this because i have some pain in my right shoulderblade and I'm also a Chronic Insomniac. I experimented with it last night.

I took six (325mg) Aspirin and two (3mg) Melatonin capsules. As you can see, I'm still alive, so i don't see any harm in it.

Now, I'm not telling you to mix medicines, different people react differently. I had no problem with this but try at your own risk.

Melatonin can accumulate in the liver if used in high does for a long period of time, several months or more. This can lead to higher than normal melatonin levels in the morning hours when they should be lowest, making it hard to awaken, causing mental fogginess, etc. High melatonin levels can also suppress normal adrenal function, especially in the early morning hours, leading to fatigue and lethargy. Melatonin should be only be used on a short term basis, in small doses (1-3 mg. are generated naturally when healthy) and as needed to correct abnormal sleep patterns, due to stress, jet lag, etc.

Although these two are commonly mixed together, which is not recommended. there is a major drug interaction between them, which can lead to health problems and even death. call your doctor immediately.

DO NOT give a six-year old ambien. You could give him child's benadryl OCCASIONALLY to help him sleep, on a plane flight for example. I cannot stress enough, do not medicate your child, especially without the advice of a doctor.

You can but only in low doses, as they both effect serotonin. I wouldn't take more than 50mg Elavil and 50mg 5 HTP daily. Exceeding this could cause a rare bu serious condition(serotonin syndrome).

I'm not a doctor by any means but I work at night and happen to need it while I was taking azithromycin and the label says not to take magnesium 2 hour before or one hour after taking the medicine melotonin contains a form of magnisium so since i took it several hour before my next dose and after my last dose I'd say it's relatively safe I have no adverse affects so far remember melatonin is something your body produces naturally so it's,not rlly harmful it may be habit forming I have to look that up but hope this helps I couldn't find anything else on this so figured id help someone else out who has the Same question

When Ambien is combined with any CNS depressant, which includes alcohol, it will increase the effects of that depressant. Therefore, great care and caution must be exercised whenever mixing ambien with any CNS depressant, including percocet. Talk to your doctor because, if there is a need to mix the two, then the dosages will have to be modified to prevent their additive effect.

Melatonin CAN interfere with ovulation (the release of a mature egg). For example, move your ovulation date later, causing a shortened Luteal Phase (the period of time from ovulation until the start of menstruation). The best chances for a healthy implantation are with a longer luteal phase, thus the earlier you ovulate, the better your baby's chances are for a good, healthy implantation. I believe Melatonin can also prevent ovulation. I was taking it to help me sleep, not thinking that it would mess with my reproductive system, since it's "natural". However, after doing some research on it, I found out it can interfere with ovulation and I stopped taking it immediately.
