You need three wooden planks, cobblestones, diamonds, iron ingots or gold, and two sticks, crafted like this:

To make a pickaxe in minecraft you must:

1) get logs

2) make it into wooden planks

3) make a crafting table using the inventory crafting square 1 wooden plank in all four.

4) make sticks out of 2 of the wooden planks in the crafting table by doing this

The material used in the top 3 squares in the crafting table can be other things such as stone and iron.
Sticks in the middle bottom two boxes and material, (e.g. diamond, cobblestone, iron.) in the top three boxes.
First you need sticks by putting two wooden planks on top of each other. Place theses in your inventory. Next, depending on what type of pick axe you want to make, get wooden planks, cobblestone, iron, gold, or diamond. Put these materials across the top and put two sticks down the middle column.

First you need two sticks and three cobblestone, iron ingots, Gold ingots, Diamond, or Wood planks. Put the two sticks on the center and center bottom crafting slots. Then lay three of the pick material on the top three slots and you will have a pick.
It is 2 sticks up then whatever you want to craft with (Wood Diamond Cobblestone Ect.) Then you should see in the other box a pick axe.
You can make a pickaxe from many resources like steel, gold and diamond; to make a pickaxe you need sticks.

Finally, you must make a "T" shape, filling the top row with your chosen material and the middle row with sticks.

Go to Minecraft's home page (the link is under "Sources and related links" below this answer), and once logged in, go to profile. Go to this link to a template and save it as a picture.

Then go into a picture editing studio (I used paint but it wasn't too good, although good for just colour) and paste the picture. The body is split up into a net like a shape so you need to know what the original guy looks like to locate his body parts. Edit it and then save the template as a png file with a different name.

Now go back to the profile tab on the Minecraft site and browse the photo. It won't look like its done it but when you go onto minecraft you will see that you look different!

Go to your crafting table on the 9 by 9 grid use these things:

L: Flint

S: Stick

F: Feather

N: Nothing

Makes 4 arrows.
In a crafting table, place flint (acquired occasionally when digging gravel,) on top, sticks in the middle, and feathers on the bottom.

Start by making a furnace, then place a bow in the center and replace the cobblestone below that with redstone
One of the more amusing toys included in the Minecraft 1.2 Beta update was the Dispenser. Created with seven cobblestone, one bow and one piece of redstone, the dispenser has the ability to store all manner of useful objects and hurl them out of itself at high speed. It is particularly useful in a defensive function if it is stocked with arrows.

When the dispenser is clicked on, you will see that it has up to nine slots which can store items to be fired or 'dispensed'. This provides quite a bit of capacity.

But all this space is fairly useless if you don't know how to hook up a dispenser. In order to fire your Minecraft dispenser, you will need to make a trail of redstone dust to it and use a switch or pressure plate or similar device to activate dispenser. When the redstone glows, the dispenser will fire one arrow (or block, or flower, whatever you put in it) you can fire rapidly by toggling a switch back and forth.

How To Make A Dispenser Mob Trap

As with pretty much anything made using redstone, the dispenser has a definite potential for traps. Because you can use stone pressure plates to power the dispenser, it is a very simple matter to line the plate up with the front of the dispenser, thus creating an 'Indiana Jones' style trap. This is an incredibly simple trap to make and I can't tell you how funny it is to be going about your business elsewhere on your Minecraft property and hearing the dispenser being set off by half-witted mobs who apparently don't mind being riddled with arrows.

The noise that the trap makes is also a potential warning system, letting you know that something (or someone, if this is implemented in SMP) is getting a little too close for comfort.
