you can get mods for it but they can be a virus if its fake, but the chance of that is slim, and theres no chance that you can get a virus off a mod on the minecraft mods website.

As a first step you will need to make sure you have a java compiler installed and, not necessary but very useful, a good java IDE such as Eclipse.

Next you will need to decide if you are going to mod against the minecraft code using MCP (Minecraft Coders Pack) and SMP ModLoader; or Bukkit or Canary. Modding against Minecraft gives you the ultimate flexibility, but at the cost of potentially making it so that your mod is incompatible with other mods. Also, using the modding API provided by Bukkit or Canary is a lot simpler than trying to understand the minecraft code, especially if you are just starting out with modding.

After selecting which method you will be using read up on the API and tutorials that the site provides and if you have any questions or can't figure something out, ask in the respective forum, chances are someone can help you.

If you was to download minecraft (the game) you have to download the minecraft.jar (java file) from minecraft.net

downloading other files such as texture packs and mods you have to download it from minecraft offical forum...

If you are using Beta you can make a compass with gold and redstone, this will always point to your start point. You can then (assuming you remember your way back) make a path to your house, then you can always go back once you die.

If you just get lost, you need a bigger house, or need to memorize the way you came from

Im not sure this is correct dude but ive heard that you must keep your computer running at all times you want the server to be up.and have the program open and running.

Download Single Player Commands and watch a tutorial how to install it. Then after download complete.

Press the button "T"

download minecraft forge, open it up and keep forge as is and hit ok, then find a mod, download the jar, and locate your minecraft folder go to mods folder, open that up and drag the mod jar into the folder and enjoy your mod. P.S. go to edit profile on minecraft launcher page and go to: use version, then scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the forge thing and then hit play and enjoy your mod.

The spawn area in a server is protected. (A radius of 33 blocks). Have them move more than 33 blocks away from the spawn point, and then they will be able to build.

If you host a server at your home or etc., then it is free. But if you host it at a site (eg: verygames), then it costs money.

If you make a extremely tall tower, or something that would make your base viewable from a distance, that would help you find your base easier.

Also, you can make torches, which would light up in the dark. Which would make your base shine at night!

Using obsidian (The dark purple block [Created by having water hit a lava SPRING]) create a Frame Like this, where O is Obsidian, and A is air

Then, using flint and steel, light fire to the inside of the frame, and it will light up and purple blocks will appear, stand inside the portal, and you will be taken to the nether.

With the bunnies mod, you can right click on a bunny and it will sit on your head!

since 1.8, notch has implemented a new terrain generator that simplifies world generation. the world is infinite and dependent on your cpu's capacity to store info & how much of that is deticated to minecraft. essentially, until mc runs out of space, the world is infinite. so are your creations. the sky is the limit my friend.

You can use as many mods as you wish, as long as none of them conflict with the others. It would also depend on how much RAM your computer has, and how powerful your CPU is. That would be the hard limit. Most computers nowadays can handle about 5-8 mods before Minecraft just crashes.
