First, you have to get in your world. You can find villages anywhere. But they are not easy to find, unless you are on flat land.

You go up to a chicken, put your cursor (the little plus in the middle) over the chicken, and then keep on left clicking it until it dies.

You can either build a really tall structure to symbolize where it is, make a map, or if you built your home near your spawn point, make a compass and follow it until you find your home/spawn point.
