Yes, fishing does work in Minecraft Beta Survival Single Player. However, in Minecraft Survival Beta Multiplayer, it is a bit buggy and bad things can happen. So, I wouldn't try it on SMP as it could glitch the server.

Starting up the PS3 with the controller instead of the button usually results in the controller being P2 (Player 2). Simply hold down the PS Button until the 2 options come up, Turn off System, Turn off Controller. Turn off the controller and turn it back on. You are now P1 (Player 1).

There are many ways this can be done. One way could be to find a NPC village and hope there is a blacksmith shop. Then, if there is a blacksmith shop, try to find iron ingots in the chest. Also, you could go through caves and on extreme luck, not have to mine at all and happen to find the stronghold and get a chests with iron ingots. In the end, just make a stone pick and mine iron. It's way easier.
