Well, I can't be exactly sure. I've never heard that terminology before, but best I can figure is that that is a reference to his African influenced period. This took place between 1907-1909 and helped develop many of the stylistic ideas used during his Cubism period.

Well it was all set in the Spanish civil war in 1937. Franco, a chief of a Spanish army trying to bomb areas around where guernica is, he was great friends with Adolf Hitler and said he could practice bombing with his airforce on the little town of Guernica. So they waited until it was market day so everyone was out-side and they bombed guernica with innocent people with no pretection for abselutely NO reason what so ever.
