Are The Pittsburgh Steelers or packers better?

The answer can change year after year with new players being added and taken off of the rosters.

For the 2010 season, the Steelers were statistically the better team with the best defense in the NFL along with a proven and experienced offensive group. While they were not explosive on the offensive end, they were considered to be amongst the best teams in the NFL.

The Packers had an up and down year throughout the season. Once the playoffs began, however, the tides turned. The Packers were dominant heading into the Super Bowl with 3 convincing victories over the Eagles, Falcons, and the Bears.

In the end, the Packers proved that they could continue their momentum. They defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers by the score of 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV.

The Steelers proved to be the better team from the start of the season to the Super Bowl as they dominated many teams. The Packers, however, proved that when they are on a roll, they are impossible to defeat, as evident by the 2010 playoffs and Super Bowl XLV.

Thus, the question is nearly impossible to answer, but after Super Bowl XLV, it appeared that the Packers were indeed the better team.

What is the significance of the Pittsburgh Steelers emblem?

  • Click on the links below to find out about the history of the Steelers logo.
  • The Steelers are the only NFL Team that sports their logo on only one side of the helmet. At first, this was a temporary measure because the Steelers weren't sure they would like the look of the logo on an all-gold helmet. They wanted to test them before going all-out.
  • Equipment manager Jack Hart was instructed to put the logo only on one side of the helmet - the right side. The 1962 Steelers finished 9-5 and became the winningest team in franchise history to date. The team finished second in the Eastern Conference and qualified for the Playoff Bowl. They wanted to do something special for their first postseason game, so they changed the color of their helmets from gold to black, which helped to highlight the new logo.
  • Because of the interest generated by having the logo on only one side of their helmets and because of their team's new success, the Steelers decided to leave it that way permanently.Today's helmet reflects the way the logo was originally applied and it has never been changed.
  • The answer can be obtained from the official web site of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Click on the links below.
  • They used to have there player's numbers on the other side, in the early days.
  • When they first decided to use the logo, their helmets were gold. The equipment manager decided to only use one logo because he wasn't sure how it would look. After they changed the helmets to black, they decided to stick with the one logo look.
  • In 1960, the upstart AFL put pressure on NFL teams to wear helmet logos like they did. The New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers and other NFL started wearing logos only on one side of the helmet in 1961, because they were cheap and didn't want to hire more equipment managers to keep up with the time consuming job done. Some NFL teams like the Colts started wearing helmet logos starting in 1954 and used both sides of the helmet since 1957. The fact the Steelers kept the logo on the right side today has more to do with style nowadays.
  • The U.S. Navy enlisted personnel wear the logo on one side - they used to wear ranking on both shoulders, but cost reasons caused them to switch to one shoulder. NFL teams can afford the decay expenses nowadays.

Are the steelers good?

If you are a fan you know lol. It is because they are the best. They have the best defense and a good offense when Bradshaw played (considered the best QB in the NFL) and Swann ( best WR in the NFL) and Harris (best RB in the NFL) they were the best team, so they never let them down you should know that.

As a franchise the Steelers were the only team in NFL history to win 6 world championships in 4 years, never before and never since has any "dynasty" come close to matching that. They also unlike the Cowboys dynasty of the 90s the 49ers dynasty of the 80's etc. did it with one head Coach and one core group of players (49ers won only 3 with Walsh and 2 with Siefert, 4 with Montana, 1 with Young, Rice was only there for 3 of them etc.) as for the Cowboys they had both Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer as coaches etc.

The Steelers also have the most NFL Hall of Famers from there dynasty years with 9 I believe the Packers only have 6 that were on the team for all titles and the 49ers and Cowboys should have about 4-5 each in coming years but many experts can't find much more HOF calibur players beyond half a dozen, so the Steelers of the 70's were not only a great and consistent core group that won the most titles in the least amount of time but did so with some individuals that taken alone were themselves world beaters.

As far as the team today the Steelers are very close to becoming the 2nd most winning franchise in playoff history (2nd only to the Dallas Cowboys) and Bill Cowher though disappointing in January always has the Steelers as very competitive. If you consider that the 49ers, Cowboys, Patriots, Packers et. al. have gone from World Beaters to 1 win seasons but the Steelers-though having some disappointing seasons--have never had a worse season since the 1970 AFL NFL merger then a 5 game win season, and then only twice (one in the mid 80s and one in the late 90s) so by in large if you are a Steelers fan you are rooting for a team that can still beat anybody even in their darkest moments whereas the great 49ers franchise fell on its face with a 1 win season, the Cowboys in 1989 were a disaster at a one win season, the Patriots as late as the early 90s were flirting with no win seasons, those franchises might reach the top of the highest peak but they soon (within 4-5 seasons) go down to the very lowest abyss, the Steelers year in and year out put together a respectable and hard hitting football team that even though one or two seasons might not be in the top 5 teams in the league, still leaves fans with great things to cheer about (much more then the 49ers, Cowboys and Patriots 1 win seasons all in the last 10 years).

If the true test of greatness is not how you are on your best day, but how well you do on your absolute worst then the Steelers are the greatest team ever, they are the only "dynasty" team to never have a horrible season since the modern NFL began with the NFL/AFL merger in 1970, never losing more then 10-11 games a season, and even then never losing like that for 2 consecutive years . . . in fact only once every decade or so being that bad (which is 5 times better then what the Cowboys, Patriots and 49ers lowpoints are in a decade long span).

They're so great because that's who they are, and because I'm a fan of the Steelers and because of what the city of Pittsburgh is. I have been through alot with this team, and I have to say that in opinion, this is the best team that EVER existed.

How many Pro Bowls has Troy Polamalu played in?

Troy Polamalu of the Steelers has been voted to 6 Pro Bowls : 2004 to 2008 and 2010, but played in only 4.

He did not play in the Pro Bowl in 2008 (2007 season) due to injury.

He did not play in the Pro Bowl in 2011 (2010 season) because it was held the week prior to Super Bowl XL, in which the Steelers played the Green Bay Packers.
