How can you get into project runway?

Each season, thousands of hopefuls audition for the reality-based competition show, but only 16 designers actually make the cut. One of the most important ways to become a contestant is by starting the application process early and following the instructions exactly. Here are the steps you will need to take to fulfill your dreams of fashion designing on the next season of Project Runway:

Meet The Requirements

Project Runway has a few requirements for its contestants. All potential contestants must be at least 21 years old and a US citizen or able to get a visa for the duration of the filming. Another requirement is that contestants cannot have made an annual salary of more than $100,000 as a fashion designer.

Fill Out the Application

The next step to becoming a contestant on Project Runway is by filling out an application through the show's production company, Bunim/Murray. Be sure to fill out the application in dark ink. Do not write on the back of the page. Attach pages to your application if you are unable to fit your answers on the front of the page.

Include Photos

You must include two photos of yourself and a few photos of your work. The photos of you should include one close up of your face and one full length. For your portfolio requirements, include between 3 to 10 of your pieces. Each piece should be shown on a model or dress form and should include front, side, back and up-close views. Those with versatile portfolios are most welcomed. Include in your portfolio both daytime and evening looks. Additionally, show all images of your working patterns and sketches. Digital photos on CDs or DVDs are preferred. If you do digital photos, be sure to include print outs as well.

Audition Video Tape

Tape a three- to five-minute video of yourself. Be sure to use mini-DV or DVD only because no other formats are accepted. Your video should be an introduction of you, your design aspirations and how you think Project Runway will help you. Be sure to infuse your audition tape with your personality. Regarding the quality of the video tape, remember to turn off auto-focus and the date stamp, and don't have music or any other background noise playing in your tape.

Last But Not Least

Staple a copy of your driver's license or state-issued identification to the back of the application.

Meet the Deadline

Every season, there is a different deadline for application submission. Be sure to check the Bunim/Murray Productions Web site for the accurate deadline. The sooner you apply, the better. Project Runway holds invite-only auditions at Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and Seattle. The production attempts to match you with a city closest to you. If you apply late and are invited for an in-person audition, you may have to travel a further distance.

All applications should be sent to:

How come people hate Heidi Klum?

I think what people (myself included) loathe about Heidi is her meteoric opinion of herself, how cool she is, and how hot she is. With all honesty, she is beautiful (albeit somewhat plastic looking), but she has the type of beauty that is irritating and corny. It's hard to define, but it gets old quickly when I watch her, unlike when I watch other super models of her time period (90s). Her arrogance and cheeseball personality are so tiring and combine that with her pathetic quest to stay relevant in pop culture is painful to watch (starting with her 'blatant attempt to be cool' marriage to Seal). She had her day in the sun, and over-exposed herself after her time had passed. 15 years ago her looks and youth could get one passed her awful personality, but now it's no longer the case. Give me Christy Turlington or Linda Evangelista anytime- models in their 40s who are still very cool and breathtaking.
