By constructing a right angle triangle whereas its hypotenuse when squared is equal to the sum of its squared sides which is known as Pythagoras' theorem.

Pythagoras' Theorem on the other hand is that with a right angled triangle, the lengths of the two sides that make the right angle squared and added together gives the square of the length of the third side (opposite the right angle)

If the 2 sides of a right angle triangle are known then the 3rd side can be found by using Pythagoras' theorem.

I think that Pythagoras got his eduacation from around the world. On Wikepedia, it says that he traveled the world at an young age, seeking information.
