Just because the horse it a quarter horse this means nothing when it comes to shoeing a horse. It all depends on the horses hooves (how healthy they are) and what the horse is being used for.
smart... depends the horse. personalities, previous experiences, lots of factors determine how horses act... quarter horses are known to be generally level headed and fairly intellegent.
It's all in the horse, not the breed. I have ridden quarter horses for 4 years and I absolutely love them, though that is just my opinion.

Over a short period of time, like a quarter of a mile, a quarter horse. They have been known to go up to 50 or even 55 miles an hour for a quarter of a mile. However, they cannot run that fast over a quarter of a mile. in a long distance race the thoroughbred would win.
Contact or ask the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) about their speed index chart. It is issued annually so the one you find may not be the most recent one.
From April Reeves, Horseman's U.com: Yes! There have been many quarter horses in show jumping, although they have been declining in numbers since warmbloods have been imported and used. A great Quarter Horse that I remember was a big palomino named 'Goldfinger', who did the jumpoff round at 6'1" at the Northwest International in '69. Unfortunately, the Quarter Horse has taken a different route in the breeding process, becoming either shorter and stronger for reining and cutting or infused with the Thoroughbred, becoming taller and loftier for hunter divisions. I currently have 2 students with Quarter Horses who are in the Junior Jumping divisions. Although the Quarter Horse may not be the first breed you think about for show jumping, there are still the odd ones who are quite successful at it in Open Divisions.
A Quarter Horse, particularly an Appendix Quarter Horse (a Quarter Horse with Thoroughbred blood), can do well in beginner and intermediate jumping. However, due to the stockier muscling and shorter stature of most pure-blood Quarter Horses, they are generally not the best at expert jumps.
In terms of money earned the best would be Stolis Winner with $2,153,981 in earnings. He is the richest racing quarter horse. He broke the record once held by Refrigerator. In terms of speed, Jess You And I set a world record for 440 yards at 20.94 seconds.

Only Thoroughbred racehorses are eligible for Thoroughbred races. Additionally, a horse must have made a certain amount of money in winnings to be eligible to enter the Kentucky Derby.
Quarter Horses are so named because their strengths lie in sprinting at tops speeds over a quarter of a mile. They have their own series' of racing.
You can ride one anytime when it comes across your path!
If he is a registered Quarter Horse the custom is to take part of one or both of the parents registered names, add something new and there you go. This way it is easy to keep track of a horse's bloodlines just by hearing his name.
A Quarter horse and Thoroughbred cross is called an Appendix horse. The value of such a horse is dependant upon many factors, age, height, sex, color, breed, pedigree, show/race records, and the current local economy, and whether the horse is registered or not. There is no one set price for a horse.
Gray stallion standing at Thompson quarter Horses in McLeod, ND. He produces a variety of colors all with outstanding personalities and disposition.
The age for breeding a horse does not go by breed. All mares should wait until they are a minimum of two to three years old before they are bred. That said, only mares and stallions with excellent conformation, a good show record, and a nice temperament should ever be bred. Just because it can produce foals doesn't mean it should.
