Many VW Beetles from '98 to '05 don't have a traditional old-school radiator cap. The radiator fluid usually is poured into the radiator fluid recovery bottle. There should be a fill line on the bottle.

If you are getting exhaust gases into the radiator, then you have a headgsket issue.

clamp or fastener not tight enough!!! or hose not push up on neck of radiator or push to far on neck pass the marker which is a raised marker/stopper

You say that it still over heats, meaning that you replaced the hose thinking that this was the problem ? Start from the beginning, check to make sure that the rad. is good. Does it o/heat at idle only ? electric fan work ? Does it o/heat all the time ? Change the thermostat. How old is the rad. ? Has the water pump ever been changed ? Could have poor circulation. Make, model, will help.

It has to be very near the bottom of the radiator.

Can be the thermostat which is cheap to replace, or it might be the head gasket which is expensive.

The cooling system on a car has to be pressurized, which a bad radiator cap fails to produce. It can cause overheating, therefore resulting in engine damage (i.e. blown head gasket) if left for too long and it can also cause the system to not heat to the correct temp at all. Obviously, the other effect is leakage.

That is a sign that oil has escaped the crankcase and is now mixed with the antifreeze, you should check your engine for a blown head gasket.

If you're referring to automobile radiators, most have a petcock at the bottom that can be unscrewed with the hand to drain the radiator.

might be a bad head gasket or radiator might be clogged or timing might be off you would need a machanic to look at it and diagnose it

first of all let me state that if your coolant was not mixed according with your state climate we'll that's how your rad froze there are only two things you can do,..1st thing is to run hot water on top of your rad ,..2nd is to stall block heater to your engine and 3rd id to mix your coolant accordingly so it won't freeze again

This cools the engine. I've seen people run without it, its not too uncommon. Might was well change it out. But if its an old car and not modified, it really doesn't matter
