no turtles have teeth.
they have a beak that is made out of keratin, which is what our fingernails are made out of
Yes, a person can feed their red eared slider turtle hoho grubs. However, it is not a major part of their diet.
They develope melanism(developement of dark pigment). In winter, they burrow into the bottom mud of lakes and ponds. They sleep at the bottom of the water.

A male will have an indent on the under part of his shell. a females will just be naturally straight
a pastel Red ear slider is a color varriation from gene manplation in the egg for males 84F and females i forgot
It is not wise to attempt to keep amphibians with fish. They need totally different conditions. A Turtle needs a set up with both wet and dry (basking) areas this is called a vivarium and the animal can choose whether it wants to be dry or wet. Amphibians also Poo and Piddle. This poisons the water so that fish can not survive in it. Fish need an aquarium where the whole thing is filled with water. The basic rules for keeping fish successfully are :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week.. If you follow the above rules your fish will stand a chance of surviving and being healthy. If you fail in any of them I can guarantee that your fish will be constantly getting sick.
yes you can, if you do so just leave him out for a little.
if there is a indent in youer turtle it is a male ok ikf it is flat it is a girl ok
If they get cold they will become sluggish and if the water is too cold they will die
A Mossback can be a number of things, however here are two common answers.
Yes - and yes ! The nostrils lead directly to the turtles lungs.
If their nose gets clogged they will have difficulty breathing. Easiest treatment would be a moist cotton bud wiped over the nostrils to dislodge any encrusted matter.
the longest recorded female has been measure just over 14 inches long but average is about 11 or 12 and males get around 10 to 11 maybe 12
Respiratory infections can cause lung and mouth pain. They need medical attention as soon as any symptoms (bubbles around nose or mouth, shallow breathing, lethargy) appear.
You shouldn't catch a turtle for a pet, you should buy one bred in captivity. It's better for the turtle.
Depends on the size of ur turtles. I heard per 1in on their shell 10 gal. I wouldn't recommend Petco, go to PetSmart. My first cage was $13 for a 20 gal at PetSmart.
Turtles and tortoises are inquisitive creatures, but they do not possess a great deal of what you would call "knowledge." Some turtles have better awareness of their surroundings (such as height or motion) than others, even within the same species. All turtles fail sentience tests, as they cannot distinguish between a reflection of themselves and another turtle. Red-eared sliders are no exception.
They have the ability to bite and may bite your finger if you hand feed them or they are hungry and want food. My baby turtles bite me when they want attention :). They usually won't bite in defence, instead just hide in their shell.
Red eared sliders do bite.......If you put a worm in front of their head. My sister did that with our turtle, Edward Twilight(my mom's idea, I dont like it), she had a hard time getting him to let go.
Red eared slider turtles are as active as any aquatic turtle. They swim, bask and eat. They don't "do much" but they are still really neat pets.
If you want to watch them "doing something" that can be entertaining, put a couple of orange goldfish in the tank. The turtles will chase the fish, catch and eat them. This is usually the most active they will be. (I say orange because turtles do not see well and will have a harder time with the brown or dull color fish).
My red eared sliders "beg" for treats. They will swim to the part of their aquarium nearest to where I am and splash water and swim around trying to get my attention.
I have one turtle who is more fond of attention than the others. I can pet her on the head and she doesn't try to avoid being "petted".
I think the red eared slider turtles are fun to watch and make interesting pets.
they need lots of swimming water land food sun shine or sun lamp tank there, but can live a while without food or water
Your turtle doesn't necessarily need a friend, but they do enjoy interacting with other turtles. Before getting a friend you may want to consider:
2 adult red-eared sliders, especially if they are female will need a large aquarium at least 100 - 125 gallon. Tanks this size are pricey to buy and maintain so be sure you are ready to make that kind of investment.
Understand your limits. A female can grow 10-13 inches while the males can grow 8 - 10 inches and they'll grow fast if you're taking care of them as you should. You may have to upgrade their home sooner than you think.
Another thing to consider is filtration. Turtles are messy animals. If you are keeping multiple turtles you should have 3 times the filtration of a regular fish tank. So the filter that is marked for a 100 gallon tank is only ideal for a 30 - 40 gallons in a turtle tank. The larger the filtration system of course the more money it will cost.
If you get 2 make sure they are the same sex. Baby turtles are cute, but you will likely find it overwhelming to care for them or find them new homes. Breeding is best left to the professionals.
Turtles are awesome and rewarding pets just be sure you're ready for the responsibility of having more than one. And remember it's NEVER EVER OKAY TO RELEASE THEM INTO THE WILD.
Red ear sliders can be picky at times too. they may ignore each other for a while.
After mating, it takes approximately 2 months for the eggs to be laid, and then another 2 months for the eggs to hatch.
Red eared sliders mate at the age of 1-3 years ( females ).
Red eared sliders mate at the age of 1 6 years ( males ).
Both Male and Female have to be 6-8 inches.
For the most part this is false. Red ear slider females need to be atleast 6 inches and atleast 3 years old but usually 4 to 5 years old.
Males need to be 5 inches and atleast 2 years old but usually closer to 3 or 4 years old.
So basically unless your turtles are atleast 3 years old then there will be no mating, the male might try but the female will usually not "accept" until she is ready.
