Make sure your turtle is in good health and knows how to catch its own food. Put a few feeder fish in its tank and make sure it knows how to catch them. Mostly your turtle will eat vegetation, but being able to catch its own food is a good skill to have. Most importantly, make sure you can legally release your turtle on the property. If its private property, check with the owner. If its a state park, check with the ranger. You don't want to add one more problem to a lake already overrun with unwanted turtles. Good luck. Can Red-eared slider turtles eat boiled chicken eggs?
Yes, but only as a treat. Turtles need a varied diet, and Red Eared Sliders move to a more plant based diet as they grow. Giving them too much protein can cause odd shell growth, and eventual deformation.
How much water does a red eared slider turtle need?
In the wild, they are opportunistic eaters so it would greatly vary. Some days he can eat up to 8 very small meals, other days he won't eat at all.
In captivity it is best to feed him 5 minutes worth of pellets once a day, or you can break it up to 2-3 minutes worth of food twice a day. He will stop when he's satisfied, so don't worry about him eating to the point where it's harmful, but what ever he doesn't eat will make the tank dirty really fast. They love feeder fish, worms and shrimp but use sparingly because it clogs up the filters much faster and the excrement is MUCH smellier. It is worth it though to occasionally give him live food.
Enjoy your pet.
Is it safe for your Red eared slider to eat goldfish?
As long as the fish is inspected and found to be free of disease, yes. If you can get the python to eat it!
Why do red eared sliders keep their eyes closed all the time in the water?
sleeping for the red ear slider is natural or it just shows that their growing. if your weather is changing then they are probably hibernating
What color should a red eared sliders poop be?
yeah, its completely normal, they do it just to get any bacteria, or parasites that might be on it off. they will also shed the top layer of their shell for the same reason, and also to help grow.
What is the population of red eared slider?
Hatchlings are around 1 inch. After one year they are typically 2 to 3 inches. Somewhere around 3 to 5 years old, females are about 5 inches and sexually mature. Males are sexually mature at 4 inches which they reach at 2 to 4 years old. Then their growth slows down considerably, females generally growing 10 to 12 inches and males generally growing 7 to 9 inches.
Red Eared sliders grow at different rates depending on their health and the quality and availability of food. Pet turtles tend to grow faster than wild turtles.
What turtles do you breed to make albino red eared sliders?
You breed a male and female Red Eared slider. Albino's are not different species of turtles, they are just a different version of that specie, but I am breeding turtles as well and you can also have an albino map turtle and so on and on...
Why cant you hold red eared slider turtles for long?
Of course you can! :) They are gentle turtles is raised properly, and mine love to be taken from their tank and petted on the head (yeah, their head!) or rubbed on their shell. It's calming for them, and good bonding time. Sometimes they may snap at you, but I've been bitten before (when his mouth was directed at a cucumber slice but my finger got in the way) and it isn't painful, so don't be scared of a turtle biting you. But you must remember to ALWAYS scrub your hands after handling your red eared slider or anything it touches because they carry diseases and you must stay clean. If you just wash your hands after VERY well, then you can hold them whenever you like. :)
Can a painted turtle breed with a red eared slider turtle?
A Painted Turtle can only "procreate" (have young) with another Painted Turtle but they have been known to "mate" (have sex) with Red Eared Sliders and Yellow Belly Sliders. They probably wouldn't try to mate with any other kind of turtle, other than a similar species of water turtle like maybe a Map Turtle. For instance, a painted Turtle probably would not try to mate with a Soft Shell Turtle or a Snapping Turtle (or any land turtle like a Box Turtle) because they would not recognize it as a possible mate. When a Painted Turtle tries to mate with a Slider, it is because its instincts are telling it that based on size, shape, and mating displays and behaviors, etc., it is another Painted Turtle. Interestingly, Red Eared Sliders and Yellow Bellied Sliders rages currently overlap and where they do there is a lot of unsuccessful mating going on between the two species but they cannot procreate. That is part of the "definition" of a separate species.
What kind of strawberry does a red eared slider eat?
i usually feed my turtles fresh fruits and veggies once a week
They're ok once in a while, but they're high in oxalic acid (along with kale and spinach), which inhibits calcium usage, so don't offer them too often.
Can red eared sliders eat bananas?
Red-eared sliders can eat bananas occasionally as a treat, but they should not make up a significant portion of their diet. Bananas are high in natural sugars and carbohydrates, which can lead to obesity and other health issues if over-consumed. It's important to provide a balanced diet for red-eared sliders that includes a variety of leafy greens, vegetables, and protein sources such as insects or commercial turtle pellets.
Can the fish live with the red eared slider baby turtle?
Yes, as long as it is large enough to accommodate the turtles. While a hatchling can live in a 10 gallon aquarium, it will soon need a 100 gallon aquarium as these turtles get up to 12" in shell length.
Can red eared sliders live with yellow belly turtles?
Yes, red eared sliders and yellow bellied sliders are both subspecies of "pond slider", in the wild where their range overlaps they mate quite often producing what are called "intergrades". The particular intergrade between a yellow bellied slider and a red eared slider often has features of both, large yellow markings on the head with a red corner.
What do red eared sliders live in?

How long can a red eared slider stay in the water without basking?
turtles need to bask in sunlight but if it's too strong, it will run away, if you have the right temperature, your turtle will stay under the sun for a long time. there is no limit to basking, just watch until your turtle walks away from it
What does it mean when your red eared slider turtle hisses?
When your red eared slider hisses at you, it is basically the same as when a cat hisses. They either want you to stop handling them, go away, or get out of their face. My larger and grumpier red eared slider hisses all the time, so don't take it personally if they hiss at you and think they hate you. They've just had enough. But I laugh at mine, since all you have to do sometimes is walk by him and hear a soft "ssssssss!!!" :)
Are red eared slider turtles warm or cold blooded?
You need to go to a pet store for aquatic animals and buy a light that works like the sun's rays. Red Sliders love to sun bathe, so if you keep them in a tank inside, you need to buy a light like that. Trust me, I have had 2 red sliders for the past 4 years :)
How do you know if your red eared slider is still alive or dead?
Age- we can guess the age by counting rings on the belly scales, but it is only a guess. You can use size charts, but they don't help a lot either.

What kind of food do red eared slider turtles need?
"Reptomin Floating Food Sticks" are a good choice. They include the vitamins RES turtles need to be healthy. Supplement that staple with "Turtle Bites" which are made of fruits and vegetables.
As treats, these turtles can be given large amounts of red leaf lettuce. They may be given small amounts of strawberries, melon, cooked meat and most vegetables.
From their tank, they will eat anacharis (water plant) and goldfish, guppies, tadpoles and ghost shrimp.
What do you feed red eared sliders?
You can feed your baby slider one of the foods designed specifically for aquatic turtles and they will also need vitamins to help their immune system. they will need to be high in vitamin A and calcium to help prevent disease. they also enjoy eating earthworms, meal worms, aquatic snails (for slightly larger sliders) and sweet water shrimp, but the baby's mouth is not big enough to eat them whole so you will have to chop them up into little peices so that they can eat it. hope I answered your question.
P.S. If the turtle won't eat after about a week get some beef blood and mix it with the vitamins and put in a dropper and put the drops in its or on its mouth so it can get some nourishment. they will also eat fruits and veggies
Can you feed a red eared slider once a week?
Yes, you can feed an adult red-eared slider once a week (providing it is a large feeding). I've been feeding my red-eared slider once a week (every Sunday night) for a year or two now.
However, recently I've decided to start feeding her two smaller feedings each week. She seems to be ravenously hungry at each feeding, and I suspect that by Friday or Saturday, she is uncomfortable and unhappy because she's just so hungry.
So, yes, you can feed a red-eared slider once a week, but if they seem too hungry at each feeding, then you should probably switch to twice a week.
Also, I wouldn't feed a juvenile turtle, and especially a hatchling, once a week. At that point they are supposed to be growing, so I think they really need to be fed at least two or three times a week.
What are all the fish who can live with red eared sliders?
Two key things are the size of your tank and your style of set up. If your turtle has an aquarium heater in the water, people will often include fish like Plattys, Mollies, Swordtails and schools of small tetra such as Rummynose or Glo-Lite Tetras. Assuming the tank is big enough - keep the schools big (7 fish or more) to cut down on the risk of them being eaten. Keep in mind that the turtles by themselves, tax most people's filters, and adding fish only makes the harmful chemical levels in the tank (ammonia, nitrates, nitrites) rise even faster.
If your tank does not have an aquarium heater in the water(most turtle tanks only have a basking light for heat), you are relegated to pretty much goldfish and one species of cold water tetra called White Cloud Tetras. It is my suggestion to veer away from Fan Tailed or Fancy Goldfish, and stick to the more common Comet, Sarrassa, or Shubunkin Goldfish, due to Fan Tails slow movement. In cold or warm water tanks, people will often make use of Plecostomus (algae eaters) as cleaning fish.
Warning!! Keep in mind that when placing fish in an aquarium with water turtles, you *always* run the risk of the fish being eaten. Water turtles can be aggressive fishers, attacking, dragging to shore and eating prey that is longer than they are, so never assume big fish are safe. Also, to this end, make sure you never place toxic fish species (like freshwater puffers) in the tank with your turtle.
In my tanks at home I place Comet(feeder) goldfish in with my turtles. Comets can be purchased very cheaply at pet stores (about 15 cents a fish) and still come in a variety of colors from orange and black to red and white. It adds some movement to the tank, and nutrition to the turtles diet (calcium) when they do choose to eat one. The only thing to watch for, is that your turtle is still eating it's regular pelleted food and not living on a diet of just goldfish as they are rather fatty.
It is not good turtle keeping to feed any freshwater aquatic turtle goldfish regularly. Once every month or two is acceptable but it is suggested to feed Rosy Red minnows, guppies, swordtails, mollys, platys. Goldfish are high in fat which is rough on the turtle to digest and is proven to lower the life spans of captive turtles.
What size do red eared slider turtles lay eggs?
An fully grown adult will have an upper shell (carapace) up to 10 inches in length.
Red Eared Sliders get to be 10-12 inches long. Females will grow to be larger than males.
Red eared sliders can get up to 8in to 10in for males and 10in to 12in for females
Also, they must have a heat lamp of at least 60 watts, located above their land, so that they can have a place to bask. You will need a water heater that will keep the water temp from 75-80 degrees F. Keep a thermometer in the water to ensure that the temperature is staying constant. The basking place should be 80 F - 85 F.

Red Eared Slider turtles get to be 10-12 inches long, females being bigger than males.
Adult red ear turtles reach up to 25 cm (10 inches) in carapace length.
i have heard anywhere from 5 to 12 inches
well they will get as big as you let them, if your have a small aquarium, they will stay relatively small. A big tank (like 50 or 60 gallons is recomended) they will reach their normal, and healthy size. a small tank is really cruel. they will get up to 12 inches at top, healthy size. 10 gallons per ich is healthy. a healthy turtle is alot more active, fun to watch, and most of all worth your money!
I have seen red eared sliders (females) as big as sewer lids. This is not an unusual size in the wild. I often saw them this size by the river and lake on our farm. So, it depends on how big your tank is and if you have males or females. In my experience, they will continue to grow larger and you will need to provide quite a large tank for them. They are quite messy, like all aquatic turtles, so know what you are commiting to before you get them. They are rewarding animals if you are willing to put in the time, space and effort!
