What is the best medecine for ringworm?

Asked by Wiki User

You can but it might not do any good.

Ringworm is not a bacterial infection (nor is it a worm), but is a fungus that affects the skin, hair and nails. It is, therefore, usually treated with a topical antifungal preparation, the same way athelete's foot, a related fungus, is treated.

How is ringworm transferred?

User Avatar

This is a good question! You clean your body after the bath with towel. You rub the body with towel. The dead skin debris is deposited on the towel. The towel is wet. Here the fungus grows on dead cells. When you wash the towel in water sources the source get polluted with fungus. Many times the towels are shared by the family members and the fungus is transmitted. The formal use of towels, other than after the bath, by the other family members, is very common. The fungus is spread by air borne route after the towel is dry.

How do you get rid of a ringworm in 2 days?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The best way to get rid of ringworm is to go to the pharmcy, and buy MONISTAT DERM, has to be the CREAM, this is an antifungal cream meant for yeast infections in WOMEN, but I HAVE FOUND IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST AT GETTING RID OF RINGWORM, IN ANIMALS AND HUMANS, depending on how bad it is, some doctors might perscribe an anti fungal pill, but the side effects can be not so pleasant, rather risky, ONLY AS A LAST RESORT, but i have found OVER THE YEARS OF BEING AROUND ANIMALS ESPECIALLY THIS WORKS THE BEST AND VERY FAST,

you only need a small amount just enough to cover the area, rub it in until it;s rubbed in completely, WASH YOUR HANDS, DON;T EVER TOUCH IT AND TOUCH SOMETHING ELSE, ALWAYS WASH YOUR NANDS, IT IS VERY VERY CONTAGIOUS, IT IS NOT A WORM, BUT A FUNGUS, AND IS SPREAD THROUGH SPORES, SO YOU MUST VACCUUM, AND WASH AREAS THAT THE INFECTED LAY ON ETC, WASH BEDDING, VACCUUM AREAS , WASH YOUR HANDS,

NOW THE DEPENDING ON HOW BADLY IT IS, IT SHOULD DISAPPEAR IN A FEW DAYS, BUT JUST BECAUSE THE CIRCLE IS GONE, DOESN;T MEAN IT;S GONE, YOU MUST PUT THIS CREAM ON AT LEAST 4 TIMES A DAY, FOR 3 -4 WEEKS, EVEN IF YOU CAN;T SEE THE CIRCLE ANYMORE!

this WILL WORK, it;s important to KEEP BEDDING CLEAN ETC,

How do you treat ringworm in cattle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Often a topical treatment of iodine will help.

The cows enjoy "foot fungus" meds being applied to the affected areas. (dont get in eyes).

--

1) Ideally Isolate the infected animal if possible. This is highly contagious. The animal and the area he's occupied in the winter need to be cleaned. After a few days he's likely less contagious. (Clean the area with a bleach solution).

2) A 50/50 bleach/water solution may be used directly on the cow. Also foot fungus medicine can be used. iodine is another solution. I've also heard about diesel fuel, but this sounds a bit harsh (I like my cows).

3) Wear gloves! remove dry scabs (I bleach first) and brush out (some even say this must be done in an area that can be cleaned and disinfected.

4) clean enclosed area and spray with diluted bleach.

clearly this does not work well in the winter, when this stuff goes nutty, but this problem is easier to fix in warm weather..

5) I find the cows love the foot fungus creams (I buy at family dollar), I guess the problem gives them discomfort, and the cream feels good when worked onto the skin. This gives them great comfort, but does not work fast.

6) If weather permits, wash cow with antibacterial soap. (dry skin carries spores).

7) be aware, the cattle auction is the breeding ground for lots of diseases and cattle should be washed with antibacteria soap before introduced to your cows. Perhaps even quarantined for awhile.

8) After the ringworm is cleaned, do not be surprised if it looks really bad with flaky skin removed. You might even see some surface blood. This is ok.

9) My cows stand still for this treatment and appear to enjoy it. I have not had any need to restrain an animal for this treatment.

After treatment of your cows, remove your gloves, wash your hands, wash your cloths, etc.

Ug...I dont slaughter my cows (nor my friends), but if this is your intent, then you might want to use the bleach solution, or follow a good withdraw period before....

How can you tell if a rabbit has ringworm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Ringworm is a skin and scalp disease caused by several different kinds of fungi. Ringworm on the scalp usually makes a bald patch of scaly skin. People with ringworm on other parts of their skin can have a ring-shaped rash that is reddish and may be itchy. The rash can be dry and scaly or wet and crusty. If the rabbit has anything like this then it is most likely ringworm and you shouldn't touch it because you can get the ringworm.

What does ringworm describe?

User Avatar

Asked by GaleEncyofMedicine

Ring worm is also known as tinea, and is caused by a fungal infection that occurs on the skin's surface. People used to believe that it was caused by worms on the skin. Ringworm is caused by dermatophytes, which are a bad kind of yeast (remember that there are different kinds of molds, yeast and fungi throughout the world, but not all cause problems on the skin. Dermatophytes are skin fungi which live on top of the skin or on its dead layer. Thus, they are usually not found in mucous membranes.

Tinea is microscopic and can live only on the skin, nails or hair. Some tinea species can exist on animal skin, while some live on the soil. Because of the variety of fungi, and the many things that people come in close contact to on a daily basis - it can be difficult to find out where the ringworm condition has stemmed from.

The fungi that causes ringworm thrives on heat and moisture, thus it is usually found in folds of the body and on the foot. Ringworm can cause the skin to itch and form red - like swelling and crusting. Some types of ringworm produce ring like spots.

If you have ring worm, it can be treated through topical anti - fungal applications or systemic treatment. Or, you can try a variety of natural and herbal products which may work and are safer in comparison to prescription medication.

How do you heal ringworms on dogs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You will need to give your puppy/dog ringworm medications from the pet store or take him/her to the vet. Its extremely important that you take him/her soon because the worm can grow longer and suffocate your puppy/dog. S/he can also develop worms in his/her heart. With medications, the worms can be treatable and disappear. I would advise you to bring the vet a sample of his/her poop on the same day appointment. This will help the vet diagnose the problem through microscope, I believe. Good luck!

Does clear nail polish work for ringworm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer 1.Yes it does i have had one and i used clear finger nail polish. Answer 2The term "ringworm" refers to fungal infections that are on the surface of the skin

Ringworm can be treated -topically (with external applications) -or systemically (for example, with oral medications)

-Topical treatment: When fungus affects the skin of the body or the groin, many antifungal creams can clear the condition in two weeks or so. Examples of such preparations include those that contain clotrimazole (Cruex cream, Desenex cream, Lotrimin cream, lotion, and solution), miconazole (Monistat-Derm cream), ketoconazole (Nizoral cream); and terbinafine (Lamisil cream and solution). These treatments are effective for many cases of foot fungus as well.

-For a long time, the only effective antifungal tablet was griseofulvin (Fulvicin, Grifulvin, and Gris-PEG). In recent years, newer agents have been introduced that are both safer and more effective. These include terbinafine (Lamisil), itraconazole (Sporanox), and fluconazole (Diflucan). Reputations die hard, however, and many people continue to fear that even these newer agents are "bad for the liver," when in fact they are quite safe when used properly.

Answer 3The 1st answer was wrong - application of nail polish does not cure ringworm. the second made no attempt to answer the question =- that person should learn to read. Answer 4:No nail polish does not cure ringworm. the second persons answer was to inform the person asking, about antifungal agents. if your not sure about using them try home remedy of apple cider vinegar(with water 1:1 ratio) or colloidal silver which has natural healing agents and silver and fungus don't get along, it kills off the fungus in other words and does work. Answer 5I have recently had ringworm which i had got from my brother and the cream for my brother never seemed to work so i looked on the computer for faster cures because i didn't want this ugly ring on my leg and used nail polish and on the next day it was already fading and by day 3 it was pretty much gone. So you can use nail polish! (: Answer 6:My brother has ringworm and we are going to see if putting clear nail polish really does help. I hope it does because my little brother is really scared.

Can you go tanning with ringworm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes you can go tanning with ringworm. The bright UV lights damage the ringworm fungus and drys out your skin. This process of quickly drying the skin will actually help get rid of the ringworm. I would wait to apply any topical creams until after you are done tanning because they might irritate your skin when combined with tanning lights.

P.S. Don't tell the tanning business that you have ringworm because they might not let you into the beds.

(You can trust this answer, I have had ringworm multiple times, it comes with being a wrestler)
