North American Robins, which belong to the thrush family and were named Robins for their resemblance to the European Robin, are native to parts of Canada and most of the contiguous United States. Known for being a sign of spring, these birds are a welcome sight to many in North America. The European Robin (also called the 'true robin'), which is part of the flycatcher family, is found all across Europe and even into Western Siberia and Northern Africa. European Robins are associated with the Christmas holiday but can also be found in British and French folklore. And last but certainly not least, there are the Australasian Robins. These little birds belong to the genus Petroicidae and can be found in Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea and on many Pacific islands.

I'm nursing a baby robin myself right now that I found blown out of a tree after a really bad storm. At first the robin didn't want to open when offered food, but I tried to feed it in a quiet, empty room and when I approached I blew a little air over the chick to simulate the mother returning to the nest. Took a few tries but he eventually started opening and chirping for the food. Now I don't have to do it at all, if he spots me anywhere close he raises up and chirps to be fed. They are actually pretty good at recognizing faces and quickly associate yours with food. Hope this helps.
