Yes. Once an absentee minor report has been filed the police are obligated to be on the "look out" for the named person. A missing person report is treated differently. In such cases authorities actively search for the named person, with assistance from the media and in some cases that involve a minor an Amber Alert is issued. No they will do nothing at 17 they can leave parents custody if they choose. We have been to all law agencies trting to get my neice back. They tell us because she is 17 and can be tried as an adult there is nothing they can do.

Yes, an 18-year-old can transfer schools in Texas without parental consent. It is a good idea to get consent because in most cases a parent is paying for the schooling. This does not mean that the parent is forced to pay for the new school.

It depends on the how the support was laid out legally. You should check your local laws because it also depends where you are located and the age of majority there - support usually stops when the child has reached age of majority unless otherwise stated by both parties. Now, again checking your local laws, if the child is no longer residing with the person that is receiving the support payments the support payments should no longer have to be made. Child support payments are paid to support a child.

In the streets you are in danger. Maybe you can contact a local shelter for youths and try to get the right help that you need, you wont be in trouble with the police if you are trying to do the right. If you are with a relative is better to contact social services and get the help that you need. Now, if you are with a "friend" and he/she is an adult (18 years old), he/she may be in serious trouble. So you better call to 1-800 786-2929 (1800 runaway) they will help you with everything. You are young and you can have a wonderful life and a bright future if you chose the right.

My son runaway he was 14 and he never came back, he died in the streets after 2 years of running away, the drugs and wrong friends took him to the wrong path. Please dont be one more.

That depends. Is he just having fun at his friend's house or something like that or does he actually want to run away? If the second statement is true, then....I think so.

Usually when they get found by the police or returned home, you can press "Ungovernable" or run-away charges on them. The first time this happens they'll be taken to a youth shelter for like 3 days to a week and you'll go in front of the judge and the child + parents will discuss whats going on, and if the parents want the kid home the judge will order the release. Otherwise, a 3-day evaluation for placement will be ordered for a group home, or in some cases rehab. In that case the teen will be kept in the shelter anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months awaiting placement, for a time period of 6 months up until their 21st birthday depending on the seriousness of what happened and the juvenile record of the person in question.

• In most States 18 is when you are no longer a minor so yes, your mother can call you a runaway and if necessary report you missing to the police after a 24 hour period. Instead of running away sit down with your mother and communicate and try to come to some amicable agreement between the two of you so you can get along better. When you run away your mother is terrified something will happen to you and trust in this ... many teens simply go missing or worse and even though a teen thinks they know it all the streets out there are 'mean streets' and there are predators just waiting for a young teen to come their way . Your mother has every right to be worried about you and you should be thankful she even cares enough to try and find you. It's time you stepped up to the plate and started acting mature and perhaps you would get more respect and have peace between your mother and yourself.

I think this is an issue that many parents deal with when their children get older and have vehicles. The thing is that you both have to have respect for one another and the "child" has to observe the niceties as they share your home. Otherwise, they are just using you. I suggest you have a talk with the child, mutually setting expectations and then follow through if he doesn't. Things are bad, not horrible, if they are maintaining school attendance and grades--don't believe the child. Obtain copies of progress reports and report cards from school. If the child is not producing, show them the way to a GED and to a job. Then, if you own the car, retrieve the keys and stop paying the insurance. Change the locks on the doors and windows so they have to knock to get back in. If you are providing for expenses, and/or a cell phone, cut them off. These are all privileges that are earned by contributing to the household. You can also redecorate the room, and pack up their belongings.

This all sounds tough, but believe me, it only gets worse the longer you put up with it. You can be firm and still tell the child you love them, and ask them to dinner. Delayed maturity and growth just costs you worry and money as the child gets older and brings higher expenses with them. Credit cards, children they can't or won't care for, sponging of you because they can't afford a home, and drug problems are possible future issues.

A child support does not end because the child is a runaway,however child support is just that,it is to be used for the support of the minor child if that child is not there then you need to contact the court and find out the options available to you in your state..

There are some States in which if a child is a runaway then all the child support payments can be held in escrow by an attorney or by the court itself and are then released only when the child has been returned home...If the child does not return home then all support payments that are made will be released to that child when the child reaches age 18....check your local laws...

When a teen runs away it can be for several different reasons. The severity of how much you get in trouble depends on how many times you've ran or if your a ward or part of DCS (Department of Child Care Services) The only way you can get in trouble is if your reported. Some teens have warrants out for their arrest. Others can be be placed in a lock-down facility, placement, a shelter home, foster care, detention, or back to their original home. All these options are used frequently. If your a ward of the state you can still get in trouble up until your 21, unless you stay in hiding for a certain amount of time and then your case will be dismissed. All I have to say is don't run because in the end you will need your education and no one wants to be homeless. Even if you have somewhere to go, your plan could fall through for any reason. People helping you out can get into trouble as well. Patience is a key virtue. :)

The legal age of majority for the state is 18. Such situations are handled in different ways by the authorities depending on the circumstances. When a minor is designated a runaway it means the person's whereabouts are unknown, when the report is filed, the police are required to look for the missing teen in the manner set out by the laws of the state or the police departments method of operation. States that participate in the AMBER Alert program are required to begin looking for the minor immediately. If an underaged person's whereabouts are known, they are designated an "absentee minor" and it generally requires the parents to file a motion with the court to obtain a requisition order and have the minor returned to their custody. The police can bring the child back to his father since the court order says it is his weekend. The mother also have a responsibility to make sure the child is brought back and can not break the court order.

It means that the fight isn't the end...it's the means to the end. If you are out gunned then it's stupid to fight and die or fail or loose just to keep from running. Being wise is not being a coward and being stupid and staying in a battle that you cannot win is not bravery. It's foolish! Leaving a loosing battle and regrouping and coming back another time, more prepared, better equipped or even sending someone else more qualified is just good business. Arrogance and pride keep people fighting a loosing battle....not bravery and wisdom. They may THINK they are being wise and brave but they are being ignorant and foolish. Pick your battles wisely and know when to retreat so you can continue to fight later.
